Job summary

Harbour.Space Institute in Barcelona collaborates with Toloka AI to offer a Work & Study apprenticeship for a Master’s in Computer or Data Science. Selected students will join Toloka AI as Forward Deployed AI Engineer Apprentices, earning a degree while working on real client projects at Harbour.Space’s Barcelona campus.

The program combines software/ML work with academic study, including a monthly student allowance and a full tuition scholarship.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering, ML or data-project experience.
• Strong Python with NumPy/Pandas; API integration.
• Understanding of LLM training, fine-tuning and evaluation (SFT, RLHF, DPO, LoRA).
• English proficiency at C1+ with clear written/verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers in designing data-generation and evaluation pipelines.
• Configure data-labeling components, quality controls and UIs.
• Prototype AI-driven solutions (agentic systems, RAG, synthetic data workflows).
• Participate in client conversations and technical discovery.
• Help move solutions from MVP toward production.

WORK & STUDY OPPORTUNITY IN BARCELONA – TOLOKA x HARBOUR.SPACE INSTITUTE

Harbour.Space Institute of Technology is excited to offer a Work & Study Scholarship in partnership with Toloka AI, for students pursuing a Master's degree in Computer or Data Science.

Through this program, selected students will join Toloka AI as Forward Deployed AI Engineer Apprentices, working on real client projects while earning their degree at Harbour.Space's Barcelona campus.

Toloka creates the data that powers leading GenAI models. It works with frontier labs, big tech, AI startups, enterprises and non-profit research organizations worldwide, combining Experts, Crowd, and Technology Platform to teach AI models to reason and to evaluate their safety and efficacy.

Harbour.Space and Toloka are seeking experienced candidates who want to do apprenticeship at the intersection of consulting, engineering and AI, while advancing their academic careers.

Core Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering, ML or data projects
• Solid Python skills (NumPy, Pandas), API integration, and software engineering foundations (version control, testing, iterative development)
• Understanding of how modern LLMs are trained, fine-tuned and evaluated (SFT, RLHF, DPO, LoRA)
• Experience with, or strong interest in, AI-driven systems such as agentic workflows, RAG or synthetic data generation
• Curiosity and structure when working through ambiguous problems and client needs
• Professional English (C1+) and clear written and verbal communication

Nice to Have

• Hands-on experience fine-tuning LLMs or building agentic systems
• Background in crowdsourcing or data-centric AI
• Experience in a client-facing, consulting or solutions role
• Bachelor's degree in AI, CS or a related field

What You'll Be Working On

• Supporting senior engineers in designing and building data-generation, labeling and evaluation pipelines for AI models
• Configuring data-labeling components, quality controls and user interfaces
• Prototyping AI-driven solutions (agentic systems, RAG, synthetic data workflows) and running experiments on data quality and speed
• Taking part in client conversations and technical discovery alongside the team
• Helping take solutions from MVP toward production
• Tuition fee scholarship to study a full degree in Computer or Data Science at Harbour.Space
• 4-6 hours/day of apprenticeship at Toloka
• Monthly student allowance

Candidate's Commitment:

• Study Commitment: 3 hours/day. You will complete 14 modules (each three weeks long) in one year. Daily class workload is 3 hours, plus homework to complete in your own time.
• Work Commitment: 4-6 hours/day. Immerse yourself in the professional world during your apprenticeship, learn from the best, and apply your newly acquired knowledge in the field from day one.
