Job description

Are you passionate about electronics and hardware design? Do you enjoy designing electronic boards, working hands-on in the laboratory, and turning complex technical requirements into practical solutions?

If so, this position is for you!

KD is a semiconductor company that provides innovative high-speed optical communication solutions for demanding environments. With more than 85 employees, we are expanding our activity in integrated circuit design and developing a unique semiconductor manufacturing facility in Spain.

As part of this growth, we are looking for a FAE Hardware Engineer to join our Automotive Business Unit. You will work closely with our R&D and marketing teams, contributing to the design, testing, and demonstration of electronic hardware for our high-speed optical communication products.

Tasks and responsibilities:
Hardware design and laboratory testing
  • Design electronic boards, including schematics, component selection, simulations, and PCB layout.
  • Develop demonstration and evaluation boards for the ASICs designed by KD.
  • Define system specifications and test procedures to ensure that boards meet project requirements.
  • Test and validate boards in the laboratory, using instruments such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and VNAs.
  • Perform board bring-up, debugging, and small hardware reworks when necessary.
  • Coordinate directly with PCB manufacturers and assemblers throughout the development process.
  • Provide technical information about our automotive products and support customer projects globally, both remotely and on-site.
  • Create schematics, block diagrams, and technical documentation to explain system architectures and proposed solutions.
  • Conduct product demonstrations, evaluations, and tests at our facilities in Madrid.
  • Participate in trade fairs and external training activities in coordination with the marketing team.
  • Maintain and update our showroom products and marketing materials to ensure successful customer demonstrations.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues reported by customers via phone or email.
  • Document customer issues and coordinate their resolution with the Field Applications, R&D, and sales teams.
  • Propose new product ideas and improvements based on customer feedback and technical experience.
  • Support testing and validation of newly developed products, maintaining close communication with R&D and other departments.
  • Maintain and update our technical knowledge base, documenting use cases, ECU designs, troubleshooting procedures, and project insights.
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical training materials and product presentations.
  • Education: BSc or MSc in Electronics, Telecommunications Engineering, or an equivalent technical degree.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in electronic hardware design, including board development, testing, and debugging.

  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with high-speed analog and digital design, EMI/EMC, PDN design, and communication protocols such as Ethernet, SPI, I²C, or SMI.
  • Laboratory Skills: Experience with oscilloscopes, VNAs, multimeters, and power supplies, including board bring-up and basic hardware rework.
  • Additional Knowledge: Experience with wired communications, Ethernet networking at PHY level, or optical communications is highly valued.
  • Languages: Good command of English is essential.
  • Indefinite full-time contract.
  • Flexible schedule, including reduced hours on Fridays and in the summer.
  • Up to 10 hours of remote work per week.
