DWS Corporate Functions Technology seeks a SQL/Oracle database engineer for the SIMS data platform in Madrid. You will model, integrate and optimise data for reporting and transition toward a Snowflake-based architecture.

The role emphasizes data quality, lineage and scalable data pipelines while collaborating with analysts, engineers and stakeholders. The successful candidate will have a Master’s or equivalent in a related field, deep Oracle PL/SQL skills, and experience with Snowflake or cloud

• Snowflake experience is desirable; ability to build Snowflake expertise as part of SIMS modernisation.
• Experience with Data Vault, Medallion Architecture, data lineage and cloud data platforms.
• Ability to understand existing systems in depth and contribute to future-state design.
• Fluent in written and spoken English; collaborative working style.

Team / division overview

DWS Corporate Functions Technology provides technology solutions for corporate functions including Finance, Risk, ALM and AFC. This role sits within the SIMS application team, supporting a financial data warehouse that provides management KPIs, quarterly and annual reporting, and other core business outputs. The current SIMS platform consists of an Oracle database and a Java web front-end. This position is focused on the database engineering and data platform side of SIMS. It is complementary to roles focused on reporting and business-facing outputs: while the reporting role focuses more on how data is presented, consumed and used by stakeholders, this role focuses on how data is modelled, integrated, controlled, optimised and prepared for reliable reporting and downstream use.

Your responsibilities

• Design and implement database changes and interfaces to support new business requirements, including the Private Pension Reform integration.
• Work with business analysts, reporting colleagues and stakeholders to ensure new data is correctly integrated, validated and made available for reporting consumption.
• Maintain, enhance and optimise the current Oracle-based SIMS database application, including PL/SQL development, performance tuning and process improvements.
• Analyse and resolve data-related business and production queries, ensuring stability, reliability and timely delivery.
• Build a deep understanding of the existing SIMS data model, interfaces, controls and operational processes through hands‑on current-state delivery.
• Use the knowledge gained from current-state SIMS work to contribute to the design and build of the future Snowflake-based platform and microservice‑oriented architecture.
• Contribute to future‑state data modelling, data lineage, data quality controls, migration approach and platform engineering patterns.
• Maintain and enhance reporting data marts built on a Data Vault architecture.
• Collaborate with the wider engineering team to ensure current delivery choices support the longer‑term SIMS modernisation strategy.

Qualifications

We are looking for Master’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Business Information Technology, Engineering, Data Management or a related discipline.

• Strong professional experience in database engineering, with deep hands‑on expertise in Oracle PL/SQL and relational database development.
• Experience designing, developing and optimising database objects, interfaces, stored procedures, data pipelines, data quality checks and performance‑critical data processes.
• Strong understanding of data modelling concepts and experience working with complex data structures, preferably in financial services or other regulated environments.
• Experience supporting business‑critical database applications, including production issue analysis, root‑cause investigation, performance tuning and operational improvements.
• Hands‑on Snowflake experience is strongly desirable; we are also interested in experienced database engineers with the curiosity and capability to build deep Snowflake expertise as part of the SIMS modernisation journey.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous: Data Vault, Medallion Architecture, data lineage, data quality controls, migration from legacy data platforms, cloud data platforms, monitoring and observability.
• Ability to understand existing systems in depth and use that knowledge to contribute to future‑state platform design and modernisation.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work through complex data, interface and platform issues in a structured way.
• Collaborative working style, with the ability to work closely with engineers, business analysts, reporting teams and stakeholders.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimise workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs.
