Job summary

Altia is seeking a Senior Data Scientist / Semantic Data Engineer with expertise in semantic data, ontologies, and knowledge graphs. You will design and implement data solutions that transform heterogeneous sources into interoperable, semantically enriched data.

Role

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist / Semantic Data Engineer specialised in semantic data, Linked Data, ontology engineering, and knowledge graphs, responsible for designing and implementing data solutions based on semantic technologies.

The project

You will contribute to semantic data and knowledge graph activities within an international project supporting European institutions and agencies, helping transform heterogeneous information sources into interoperable, reusable, and semantically enriched data solutions.

Semantic Data & Ontologies: Design and align data models and ontologies, develop controlled vocabularies, and manage their lifecycle to ensure consistency and interoperability.

Knowledge Graphs: Design and maintain knowledge graphs, develop and optimise SPARQL queries, and validate semantic data models using SHACL.

Data Ingestion & Transformation: Develop ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform, and publish data from relational databases, XML, JSON, CSV, and APIs into RDF-based environments.

Linked Data Engineering: Implement Linked Data solutions and semantic transformations using established RDF standards and mapping technologies.

Functional & Technical Collaboration: Translate business requirements into technical specifications and communicate complex semantic data concepts and results effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Semantic Web & Linked Data: RDF, RDFS, OWL, SKOS, SHACL, JSON-LD, Turtle, RDF/XML, Linked Data.
• Querying & Knowledge Graphs: SPARQL, knowledge graph modelling and optimisation, QLever, Virtuoso, GraphDB.
• Ontology Engineering: Ontology alignment, vocabulary design, ontology lifecycle management, semantic modelling.
• Data Engineering: Python, ETL/ELT, RML, data ingestion and transformation from relational, XML, JSON, CSV and API sources.
• Validation & Interoperability: SHACL, semantic data validation, RDF mappings and Linked Data interoperability.
