Job summary

Hamilton Barnes is seeking a Data Center Critical Facilities Engineer in Madrid to join a growing critical infrastructure operation. You will manage day-to-day data center facilities, oversee electrical and HVAC systems, and coordinate subcontractors to ensure uptime and safety.

A clear path exists to progress to Site Manager at a new Tier IV facility. The role emphasizes client interaction, strict adherence to safety and ISO standards, and collaboration with internal teams to optimise energy

Qualifications

• 3+ years in facilities management or critical infrastructure.
• Read and interpret electrical/mechanical schematics.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operation and technical performance of data center facilities.
• Monitor and supervise maintenance activities (preventive, predictive, corrective).
• Coordinate subcontractors and on-site maintenance teams.
• Serve as first contact for client incidents and operational issues.
• Monitor electrical and HVAC systems and address deviations.
• Review maintenance records and CMMS data.
• Track facility KPIs and energy usage for improvements.

The organization is currently on the lookout for a Data Center Critical Facilities Engineer to join a growing critical infrastructure operation in Madrid. The ideal candidate will bring a strong facilities or engineering background, working across both electrical and mechanical systems, with experience from hospitals, industrial facilities, or other critical environments equally welcome. The role involves working closely with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams, overseeing day-to-day operations, maintenance, and technical performance, with a clear path to progress into a Site Manager position at a new Tier IV facility.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the day-to-day operation and technical performance of the data center facilities.
• Monitor and supervise planned, preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance activities.
• Coordinate subcontractors and maintenance providers working on-site.
• Act as a first point of contact for client incidents and operational issues.
• Monitor electrical and HVAC/mechanical systems and respond to operational deviations.
• Review maintenance records, work orders and operational information within the CMMS.
• Monitor facility KPIs, including energy and utility consumption, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Support the preparation and review of maintenance schedules, operational procedures and client documentation.
• Ensure contractors operate in line with Health & Safety requirements and site procedures.
• Support emergency and self-protection plans and other critical facility procedures.
• Accompany clients during site visits and maintain clear, professional technical communication.
• Support compliance with relevant standards, regulations, licences and operational requirements.
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and suppliers to maintain service continuity and minimise operational risk.
• Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reliability and operational processes.

Skills/Must Have:

• 3+ years' experience in facilities management, critical infrastructure, industrial facilities or a comparable environment.
• Strong understanding of HVAC and electrical systems.
• Experience coordinating or supervising subcontractors and external maintenance teams.
• Comfortable working in a highly procedural and safety-critical environment.
• Able to read and interpret technical drawings and electrical/mechanical schematics.
• Experience with ISO standards, compliance requirements, CMMS platforms and protocol-driven critical environments
• Strong communication and customer-facing skills.
• C1+ English is essential.
• Curious, proactive and willing to learn new technologies and ways of working.
• Strong aptitude and attitude, personality and potential are particularly important for this position.
• A degree in Industrial, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
