Title: Fractional Chief Medical Officer (Pulmonology Background)

Location: Remote, with periodic on-site or travel as needed

Engagement: Part-Time / Fractional (Consulting)

About the Company: We are an early‑stage, seed‑funded biotechnology company focused on advancing a novel therapeutic platform to address unmet needs in pulmonary and inflammatory diseases. As we progress through preclinical development, we are seeking a Fractional Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to guide our translational strategy and prepare the organization for first‑in‑human clinical studies within the next 12–18 months. This is a high‑impact role that will work closely with scientific leadership, advisors, and investors.

Position Overview: The Fractional CMO will serve as the lead medical and clinical strategist for the company. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in pulmonology and translational/early clinical development, with the ability to shape clinical strategy, define our PhaseI/II pathway, support fundraising, and help build clinical partnerships. This individual will be instrumental in translating scientific innovation into a clear and credible clinical plan that advances the company toward regulatory submissions and early clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Strategy & Development
  • Develop and maintain the overall clinical development roadmap, with emphasis on first‑in‑human and early proof‑of‑concept strategies.
  • Identify target patient populations, trial endpoints, and potential clinical indications with alignment to commercial and scientific priorities.
  • Evaluate and guide biomarker strategy, including translational assays, sample collection planning, and clinical relevance.
  • Support the design of PhaseI clinical study protocols, including dose selection rationale and safety monitoring plans.
  • Collaborate with regulatory consultants to prepare documentation for pre‑IND meetings and IND filings.
  • Translational Medicine Leadership
  • Integrate preclinical data into clinically meaningful hypotheses and development milestones.
  • Provide medical insight to guide target selection, dose prediction, and pharmacology studies.
  • Ensure scientific and medical rationales are clearly articulated in internal and external communications.
  • Clinical Trial Planning & Execution
  • Lead identification and selection of CROs, clinical trial sites, investigators, and scientific advisors.
  • Establish relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) in pulmonology and related therapeutic areas.
  • Advise on patient recruitment strategy, feasibility assessments, and trial operational planning.
  • Support investor pitches, diligence requests, and strategic partnership discussions.
  • Represent the company at scientific conferences, advisory boards, and partnering meetings.
  • Provide clear medical and strategic narratives that communicate the clinical rationale and competitive differentiation.
Qualifications
  • MD or MD/PhD with board certification in Pulmonology (or related pulmonary medicine specialty).
  • 10+ years of experience in biotech/pharma clinical development, including hands‑on experience with PhaseI/II program design.
  • Prior involvement in regulatory interactions and IND‑enabling activities.
  • Proven ability to translate preclinical findings into clinical strategy.
  • Experience working in startup or resource‑constrained environments; comfort working in a small, dynamic team.
  • Excellent communication skills: able to convey complex scientific concepts to scientific, clinical, and investor audiences.
  • Previous fractional/consulting CMO experience is a plus but not required.
Engagement Structure
  • Fractional / part‑time role, average of ~20–40 hours per month depending on company needs and candidate flexibility.
  • Competitive consulting compensation with potential for equity participation.
