Rijk Zwaan Ibérica in Almería, Spain, is seeking a Breeder Watermelon to join the local breeding team. You will develop watermelon varieties for global markets, design and evaluate trials with international collaborators, and work closely with market specialists to align objectives.

You will contribute to trait development, disease resistance, and fruit quality, while collaborating with crop management, plant pathology, seed production and internal stakeholders to ensure pipeline progress.

Qualifications

• MSc level education in plant breeding.
• 2–5 years of experience in plant breeding (cucurbits a plus).
• Willingness to travel and perform field work.
• Knowledge of data analysis and product development.

Responsabilités

• Plan and execute crosses for watermelon breeding.
• Design and evaluate variety trials worldwide with stations and clients.
• Phenotyping and data analysis to support decisions.
• Coordinate with Crop Management, Plant Pathology, Seed Production and other stakeholders.
• Implement latest company technology developments.
• Participate in strategic discussions about the breeding program.

Do you want to contribute to the development of new Watermelon varieties? Are you passionate about plant breeding? Then you are the Breeder Watermelon we are looking for to strengthen our breeding team in Almería, Spain and working in an international trial network across Europe and North Africa..

How does your job as Breeder Watermelon at Rijk Zwaan?

You will be part of our Watermelon breeding team based in Spain in the station Almería. The main goal is to develop Watermelon varieties for many different market segments worldwide in close contact with the market specialists that are present in different parts of the world. As Breeder Watermelon you will be working on new traits, innovation concepts, disease resistances and fruit quality traits. In addition, you are involved in:

• Planning and execution of crosses.
• Designing and evaluating variety trials around the world in our stations and with clients.
• Phenotyping and data analysis to support decision-making within the breeding program.
• Close coordination with Crop Management, Plant Pathology, Seed Production and internal stakeholders to ensure pipeline progress.
• Close collaboration with Crop Specialists and Crop Coordinators to define breeding objectives and support the introduction of new varieties in key markets
• Implementing last technology developments of the company.
• Taking part in strategical discussions about the breeding program.
