EDP is seeking a BESS Procurement Expert to lead the procurement strategy and execution of utility-scale energy storage projects across geographies. You will drive market engagement, RFP/RFQ processes, and contract negotiations to deliver competitive outcomes and timely project execution.

The role interfaces with Engineering, Development, Legal, Finance and Risk, ensuring alignment of technical and commercial requirements throughout the procurement cycle.

Formación

• University degree, preferably in Engineering or a similar field. A master degree or postgraduate qualification will be valued.

• Experience with BESS, energy storage or battery technology is highly valued.

• Prepare procurement reporting and supplier performance dashboards.
• Manage daily relationships with strategic BESS suppliers.

As a Bess Procurement Expert at EDP, you will lead the procurement strategy and execution of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across different geographies. You will manage complex sourcing processes from market engagement and RFP/RFQ through negotiation, contracting and award, ensuring competitive commercial outcomes, appropriate risk allocation and alignment with project schedules and technical requirements.

The role will act as a key interface between Procurement and Engineering, Development, Project Management, Legal, Finance, Risk and other business areas, ensuring that technical, commercial and contractual requirements are aligned throughout the procurement process.

The candidate will lead the purchasing and contracting cycle in accordance with EDP Procurement Department guidelines, the EDP Group Purchasing Policy and applicable governance and approval requirements, ensuring competitive outcomes, appropriate risk allocation and timely project execution.

The role will combine strategic sourcing with hands-on project procurement, supporting the business in securing competitive pricing, reliable supply capacity and appropriate technical and commercial solutions for BESS projects.

What will you do:

• Lead internal stakeholder alignment on the BESS pipeline, procurement roadmap and overall sourcing strategy.
• Lead RFI/RFP processes, setting the sourcing approach, coordinating bidder engagement, challenging evaluations and driving negotiations through award recommendation.
• Develop BESS sourcing strategies across projects and portfolios, maximizing portfolio leverage, standardization and strategic value.
• Carry out market intelligence on BESS technologies, manufacturers, supply capacity, battery cell and raw material trends, logistics, tariffs, currencies, regulatory developments and other market drivers affecting procurement decisions.
• Lead complex commercial and contractual negotiations with BESS suppliers, ensuring robust allocation of delivery, performance, warranty, technology, grid-code and regulatory risks.
• Define, negotiate and closure of BESS supply agreements, LTSA and frameworks, ensuring consistency with EDP standards and portfolio strategy.
• Own procurement risk and supply-chain strategy for key projects, coordinating mitigation, contingency and escalation plans with stakeholders.
• Lead cross-functional contract negotiation and approval processes, driving resolution of material commercial and contractual issues.
• Carry out market intelligence on BESS technologies, manufacturers, supply capacity, battery cell and raw material trends, logistics, tariffs, currencies, regulatory developments and other market drivers affecting procurement decisions.
• Prepare procurement reporting, benchmarking and management information on supplier performance, pricing, savings, market developments, risks and sourcing activities, supporting informed decision-making by Procurement and Senior Management.
• Manage daily relationships with strategic BESS suppliers, representing EDP long-term supplier partnership.

What are we looking for:

• University Degree, preferably in Engineering or a similar field. A master degree or postgraduate qualification will be valued.
• +3 years in procurement, strategic sourcing or contracting, preferably within energy or renewable energy projects.
• Previous experience with BESS, energy storage, battery technology, renewable energy projects or the power sector is highly valued. Experience managing complex equipment supply contracts and/or LTSA is a strong advantage.
• Strong understanding of BESS systems, technologies and key components.
• Knowledge of BESS commercial models, performance guarantees, degradation, capacity and round-trip efficiency warranties, augmentation and LTSA/O&M structures.
• Understanding of utility-scale energy storage project development, construction and operational processes.
• Strong contractual and commercial skills, with the ability to understand, negotiate and close complex supply and service agreements.
• Fluent Spanish and English (oral and written) is mandatory. Portuguese is recommended; additional languages will be considered a plus.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to challenge proposals and identify commercial risks and opportunities.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
• Advanced negotiation skills, with demonstrated ability to lead complex negotiations and achieve commercially favourable outcomes in high-value contracts.
• Proactive, collaborative, autonomous and highly organized, with the ability to anticipate project and procurement needs and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and across multiple projects, geographies and stakeholder groups, while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines.
