Amentum seeks an Assistant Fire Chief of Operations to lead the Fire and Emergency Services on Diego Garcia, ensuring readiness, safety, and regulatory compliance for all operations. You will direct fire suppression, prevention, and emergency response activities while coordinating with DoD and local stakeholders.

The role requires strong leadership, robust planning skills, and the ability to manage budgets, training, and documentation in a demanding remote environment.

Formación

  • Three years of experience leading an F&ES fire prevention section or division in a fire department of similar size and scope to Diego Garcia.
  • Certification as Assistant Chief of Operations, Fire Inspector III, and Plans Examiner I.
  • Completion or ability to complete the NFPA 101 Life Safety Course within the first two years of employment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in operational leadership, team building, and managing emergency response activities.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to perform contract requirements and comply with installation procedures.
  • Passport must be valid for a minimum of one year or more at hiring.
  • Ability to obtain country-specific visas as per Foreign Clearance Guide.

Responsabilidades

  • Lead operational readiness and functionality of the Fire and Emergency Services department, ensuring compliance with fire prevention standards, safety protocols, and mission requirements.
  • Provide leadership for fire department operations on Diego Garcia, promoting a safe firefighting, rescue, and emergency response team.
  • Lead fire prevention efforts, including inspections, assessments, and community outreach to ensure personnel and facilities safety.
  • Oversee development and implementation of emergency action plans for various fire prevention and emergency scenarios.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA and DoD standards for the fire department.
  • Directly supervise fire suppression, rescue operations, hazardous materials mitigation, and other emergencies.
  • Schedule and manage personnel assignments and training to maintain certifications.
  • Assist in budgeting for equipment, supplies, and personnel.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure fire safety systems are inspected and operational.
  • Maintain incident reports and training records; liaise with stakeholders.

Assistant Fire Chief of Operations

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking an Assistant Fire Chief of Operations to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia. This Full time on site position offers great opportunities for career growth.

Job Responsibilities
  • The Assistant Fire Chief of Operations is responsible for the operational readiness and functionality of the Fire and Emergency Services (F\&ES) department, ensuring compliance with fire prevention standards, safety protocols, and mission requirements.
  • Providing leadership and management for fire department operations on the island of Diego Garcia, promoting a safe and effective firefighting, rescue, and emergency response team.
  • Leading fire prevention efforts, including inspections, compliance assessments, and community outreach activities to ensure the safety of personnel and facilities.
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of emergency action plans, ensuring readiness for a variety of fire prevention, suppression, and emergency response scenarios.
  • Ensuring the fire department meets standards set forth by applicable regulations, including the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Department of Defense (DoD).
  • Directly supervising fire suppression, rescue operations, hazardous materials mitigation, and other emergency operations as required.
  • Scheduling and managing personnel assignments and training programs to maintain operational effectiveness and compliance with required certifications.
  • Assisting in preparing and managing budgets for operational needs, including equipment, supplies, and personnel.
  • Conducting risk assessments and ensuring fire safety systems and equipment are regularly inspected and operational.
  • Maintaining accurate incident reports, operational data, training records, and other documentation as required.
  • Acting as a liaison between local, municipal, and military stakeholders, ensuring effective communication of fire department capabilities, needs, and concerns.
Minimum Requirements
  • A minimum of three years of experience leading an F\&ES fire prevention section or division in a fire department of similar size and scope to that of Diego Garcia.
  • Certification as Assistant Chief of Operations, Fire Inspector III, and Plans Examiner I in accordance with recognized standards.
  • Completion or ability to complete the NFPA 101 Life Safety Course within the first two years of employment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in operational leadership, team building, and managing emergency response activities.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
  • Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce.
  • Valid country driver’s license and passport.
  • Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
  • Completion of advanced coursework in fire prevention, fire safety, and emergency response operations.
  • Familiarity with fire prevention regulations and standards as outlined by NFPA, DoD, and Navy-specific requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience managing fire prevention programs in a remote or military environment.
  • Strong leadership capabilities in coordinating and directing fire response teams effectively under high-pressure situations.

Working Environment
  • This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations.
  • Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain.
  • Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
  • Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
