Senior Software Engineer, Backend - Cars Agency ( Remote)

The Cars Agency team is responsible for enabling the car rental services as part of our travel platform making integrations with car rental suppliers to offer a wider selection of options to our customers from a B2B and B2C perspective.

We are seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer to join our team and contribute to developing impactful solutions to empower our service stack and help to the growth of our business unit. In this role, you will work closely with a team of engineers and product managers to build a flexible and scalable multi-tenant product that can be tailored to the needs of our customers. You will be instrumental in building and maintaining our backend infrastructure and API services with a strong sense of ownership.

• Build amazing consumer experiences, taking responsibility for code quality, scalability, reliability and performance
• Improve our microservices based on metrics such as latency and availability
• Collaborate with other engineers in software design and development best practices to significantly drive faster iteration and experimentation
• Collaborate with a diverse and talented group of people to integrate the Cars services into our larger travel platform.
• Thoughtfully assist with the evolution of our ops processes, participating in the on-call rotation for Cars owned domains

• Love for building customer centric software
• 6+ years of experience in software development with a focus on backend systems
• A strong understanding of distributed systems and how architectural decisions affect performance and maintainability
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture
• Proficiency in JVM-based languages (Scala preferred but not mandatory)
• Experience and strong ability to design and integrate APIs
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Excelled in an environment with cross-functional teams, working fluidly with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Software Developers, and other highly skilled specialist

• Experience working in the travel industry
• Experience developing for millions of MAU
• Experience with cloud-based infrastructure (AWS or GCP knowledge is a plus)
• Experience working with gRPC/Protobuf
• Functional programming

• We have a microservice architecture with over 200+ services
• Mostly Scala on the backend with some Python
• GCP as our Cloud provider
• We use things like Pub/Sub, Big Query, Cloud SQL, Spanner, Redis
• We are driven by data so Amplitude, Big Query and Datadog will be your buddies
