Manages and directs the Education Department for Sagamok Anishnawbek in accordance with policies, procedures and guidelines set by Council.

The scope of programs and services that are administrated by the Director of Education include Biidaaban Elementary School, Day Care (Shki Waase Aaban Binoojiinh Gamik), Adult/Alternative Education, as well as secondary and post-secondary counseling programs.

Duties include overseeing strategic planning, priority setting, and budgeting; serving as a liaison between employees and Council; assisting students and community members; and serving on various committees. Responsibilities involve extensive interaction with directors and managers, Chief and Council, federal government officials and other government departments and agencies and boards of Education.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education or other directly relevant field of study, in combination with five years of senior leadership experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible management and leadership experience in a relevant field is required.
  • Knowledge of, and respect for, Anishnawbek history, practices, teachings, language, values, and beliefs is required.
  • Ability to understand and speak Anishnaabemowin is preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of case management and service delivery systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet and email software, and use of on-line learning resources is required.
  • Preference will be given to a member or resident of Sagamok Anishnawbek.
  • Hold, or be willing to secure, CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle for on-the-job use.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Sign & comply with an annual oath of confidentiality.
  • Must provide a criminal record check prior to commencing employment.
  • Incumbent is subject to six months’ probation.
