Apply remote type Hybrid locations San Juan, Puerto Rico time type Full time posted on Posted 26 Days Ago job requisition id R0004957 The Advisor, Loan Portfolio (Credit Underwriting) supports the US Loans division in the preparation of loan participation credit proposals and periodic credit reviews. The Advisor performs credit analysis for existing and new borrowers referred by the program partners, which includes, but is not limited to, the preparation and/or review of screening, approval and modification memos. The Advisor is also responsible in directly supervising, leading & supporting unit analysts. This position works remotely but occasional meetings and interactions may require availability to work on-site in our headquarters based in San Juan, PR.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare a complete and adequate supported credit proposal or memorandum in compliance with US Loan Program (USLP) and Bank’s policy and regulations.
  • Ensure credit facility approved is adequately documented. Actively participate in the closing process and adherence to Bank’s credit policies and regulations. 
  • Oversee the monitoring of approved credits for the portfolio under management, ensuring adherence to conditions of credit and that areas of opportunities or weaknesses are identified and remedial actions are taken/recommended in a timely manner. In coordination with the USLP Director, measure and monitor portfolio profitability.
  • Directly oversee, support & train analysts to ensure an efficient operation, attainment of objectives, and general position related development through timely coaching and counseling. 
  • Ensure that credit analysts correct findings, if any, from Auditors (Internal/External), Loan Review (Internal/External), Government Examiners including: the FDIC, Puerto Rico’s Bank’s Commissioner Office, among others. Can also assist, when needed, in the periodic review and update of the procedures, manuals & policies.
  • Ensure for the completeness and accuracy of the quarterly and annually loan reviews performed by the credit analysts. 
  • Maintain a complete and updated pipeline for the portfolio under management, as well as an updated credit file in compliance with Bank’s policies, laws and regulations.
  • Assist in overseeing and nurturing the relationship with U.S. Loan Program existing clients as well as the identification of new potential clients and assets.
  • Maintain good channels of communication with program partners and provide constructive comments, as applicable, on credit opportunities and other submissions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in Accounting and/or Finance required. Master’s degree in business administration or related field preferred.
  • Three (3) years of direct banking experience in finance, credit and risk related areas. Experience as a commercial credit analyst and/or underwriter for highly desirable.
  • Minimum education and experience required can be substituted with the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
  • Strong mentoring and relationship building skills with ability to effectively lead and/or influence groups and resolve interpersonal conflicts.
  • Highly proficient in decision making with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and influence others towards consensus.
  • Strong knowledge in credit analysis, secured financing & credit risk management.
  • Good understanding of Federal and State banking rules and regulations.
  • Analytical, problem solving, organized, detail oriented and able to meet strict deadlines.
  • High interest in the US economic and financial markets & trends.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish with a demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively.
