Position title:
Merrill Enhancement Courses Pre-six Lecturer
Salary range:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The annual salary range for this position is $64,329 - $109,516 (based on salary points 1-19). Course credit varies from one to five credits (the majority of courses are two or five credits). A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach a two-credit course is $3,216 - $5,476. A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach a five-credit course is $8,041 - $13,690. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year (see Summer Session Faculty and Lecturer Pay). Percent time:
Variable, based on the course load assigned. Anticipated start:
Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit's instructional need and the availability of funding.This recruitment is valid for initial appointments beginning in spring quarter 2023 through spring quarter 2024. Initial appointments made after this period must be made through other recruitments. Position duration:
Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

Position description

Merrill College at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach a course or courses that contribute to one or more of the college's long-standing interests. These include social justice, public service, and understanding intersections between developed and developing worlds. Applicants should be able to draw from expertise in arts, engineering, humanities, physical and biological sciences, or social sciences.

Applicants with the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: (1) professional experience in social justice or public service organizations or professional experience in arts or media production (e.g., theater, film, journalism); and (2) university-level teaching experience as instructor of record or teaching experience with courses that are organized around fieldwork, service learning, or experiential education.

The college is particularly interested in applicants with a demonstrated record of working effectively with students from a wide range of social, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

The hiring unit will not sponsor employment-eligible immigration statuses for this position.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • M.A/M.S. degree (or equivalent foreign degree); or five years of professional experience in a relevant area such as journalism, non-profit management, field program coordination, film production, educational administration, etc.
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
