About - Mindful
Mindful – Centre for Training and Research in Developmental Health is funded by the Victorian Department of Health and auspiced by the University of Melbourne in the Department of Psychiatry. The Centre provides a wide range professional development training for the broader child, adolescent and youth mental health sector.

In 2022 over 3700 participants attended Mindful training courses.

Mindful's current programs have a state-wide, national and international reach and include:

  • Mental Health multidisciplinary, multisector workforce training and development for professionals working with infants, children, adolescent, youth and their families. This includes degree and professional development courses and workshops.
  • Tuning in to Kids (TIK), a suite of nationally and internationally recognised evidence-based emotion focused parenting programs. With over 20 years of research evidence to support its benefits, a number of variants have been developed and evaluated over time, including Tuning in to Kids (TIK), Tuning in to Teens (TINT), Dads Tuning in to Kids (Dads TIK), Tuning in to Toddlers (TOTS) and Tuning in Online Programs (TOP).
  • Autism Training, over 10 years this has expanded to include an extensive Training Calendar and a range of supports to build capacity in mental health professionals.
  • Mindful has a significant research and evaluation program in particular related to Tuning in to Kids® and also other areas.

    About – The Department of Psychiatry

    The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne was established in the 1960s. It is one of the largest Departments in the Melbourne Medical School. There are about 120 academic and professional staff, 140 honorary staff and 50 students pursuing research degrees from Honours, Masters, and PhD programs. A further 240 students are enrolled in graduate coursework programs, including the flagship Master of Psychiatry program. The Department plays a key role in the medical curriculum of the graduate Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, providing rotations in psychiatry for medical students and teaching in other sections of the course. The Department also offers opportunities for students undertaking research projects in the MD course.

    The Department is located across a broad reach of Melbourne. It has teaching and research units at Austin Health, St Vincent's Health, and within NorthWestern Mental Health: the latter includes units at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Sunshine Hospital, and Northern Hospital. The Department also has units at two private hospitals: Albert Road Clinic (Ramsay Health Care) and The Melbourne Clinic (Healthscope).

    The Department has a number of specialist clinical research units, comprising the Academic Unit for Psychiatry of Old Age, Melbourne Neuropsychiatry Centre and Phoenix Australia (Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health).

    The Department's research focuses on improving our understanding and treatment of mental health disorders. It covers a broad range of psychiatric research, including prediction and biomarker research, neuropsychiatry, psychopharmacology, neuroimaging, psychosocial research, economic evaluation, ethics, psychiatric epidemiology, and mental health service delivery.About the Role
    The Business Manager is the most senior professional staff position at Mindful - Centre for Training & Research in Development Health for the daily business support operations including the delivery of excellent and comprehensive administrative support services, as well as the maintenance and development of stakeholder relationships and is expected to actively participate in Centre and University wide activities.

    The Business Manager works closely with the Centre Director to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to identify new business and source funding opportunities that support and further the Centre's strategic goals and objectives.

    Responsibilities include:

  • Provide financial and resource management and administrative leadership for the Centre and supervise core Centre administrative staff.
  • Work closely with the Manager, Department of Psychiatry, and central services staff to coordinate an integrated approach to service delivery based on best practice models across the range of planning requirements.
  • Responsibility for the overall financial management of the Centre in partnership with the Centre Director, the Manager, Department of Psychiatry, the University's finance business partner and other stakeholders.
  • Responsibility for the recruitment, training, career development and performance of professional staff within the Centre.
  • Play an active role in developing the Centre's strategic and business planning, including collection, analysis and synthesis of information to develop key strategic and action plans across the Centre in the areas of course development & training, research, research training and knowledge dissemination.
  • About You
    You demonstrate people leadership, financial, human resources, teaching administration and operational planning experience, including a track-record of service delivery that is financially sustainable. Your excellent interpersonal and written communication skills allow you to be an effective part of a broad team, though you will still be able to work autonomously with considerable independence as needed, utilising your judgement and initiative to overcome any obstacles that may arise.

    You will also have:

  • A graduate qualification in a discipline relevant to the centre's operations; eg: health management, business administration, or related fields or extensive relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated strategic focus and an ability to identify opportunities and work to strategic direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex activities and projects and to manage a range of disparate stakeholders.
  • The ability to foster relationships with Centre stakeholders in a spirit of collegiality and for the public good.
  • To ensure the University continues to provide a safe environment for everyone, this position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check.
