Job summary

Nordea is seeking an experienced Tech Lead for the Data Mesh and AI Platforms team. You will shape and deliver cloud and AI platform capabilities to enable internal teams to build, provision, and operate data and AI solutions securely and at scale across AWS, GCP, and Azure.

You will lead a small, highly technical team, driving automation, secure provisioning, and platform patterns while collaborating with product owners, cybersecurity, governance, and cloud platform teams.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience in cloud, infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, or similar technical leadership roles.
Proven track record designing and delivering production-grade platform capabilities across multiple cloud providers.
Expert-level knowledge of infrastructure, provisioning, automation, and Infrastructure as Code.

Responsibilities

Set engineering direction for AI platform capabilities with emphasis on architecture, scalability, and resilience.

We are looking for an experienced Tech Lead to join our Data Mesh and AI Platforms team. You will help shape and deliver the cloud and AI platform capabilities that enable teams across Nordea to build, provision, and operate modern data and AI solutions securely, consistently, and at scale. You will join a small, agile, and highly technical team with a mandate to drive impact across Nordea. Success in this role means we have reusable, well-governed platform patterns that make it faster and safer for internal teams to move from idea to production across AWS, GCP, and Azure.

About our team

Welcome to the Data Mesh and AI Platforms team. We are building the next generation of cloud-native data and AI platform capabilities for Nordea, with a strong focus on secure infrastructure, automated provisioning, identity integration, and reusable engineering patterns. This is not a maintenance role; you will help lead the technical vision and hands-on execution for platforms that support predictive AI, generative AI, and agentic workflows in a regulated banking environment.

The team works closely with product owners, engineers, architects, cybersecurity, data governance, and cloud platform teams to ensure our solutions are pragmatic, compliant, and production-ready. You will be expected to combine deep technical expertise with strong engineering leadership and the ability to explain complex platform choices clearly to different stakeholder groups.

This is a full-time permanent position with a hybrid working arrangement—up to 40% remote work is possible, but full remote work is not allowed. We expect to hire in one of these cities: Gdańsk or Gdynia, Poland; Copenhagen, Denmark; or Helsinki, Finland.

Your main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Set the engineering direction for our AI platform capabilities, ensuring strong architectural integrity, scalability, and operational resilience.

Lead by example with hands-on engineering work across cloud infrastructure, platform automation, CI/CD, provisioning, and reusable infrastructure-as-code patterns.

Design and mature secure platform foundations across AWS, GCP, and Azure, including identity provider integration, access patterns, network/security controls, and observability.

Drive pragmatic adoption of AI platform services such as AWS Bedrock, AgentCore, Google Gemini, and Azure AI Foundry, ensuring they can be used safely in a banking-grade environment.

Coach engineers, foster engineering best practices, and help build a strong platform engineering culture focused on automation, repeatability, quality, and developer experience.

Collaborate with product owners, data scientists, architects, cybersecurity, and governance teams to align technical decisions with business priorities and regulatory expectations.

Own and communicate the technical roadmap, balancing speed, scalability, cost, compliance, and operational reliability.

Translate technical complexity into clear recommendations, decision points, and status updates for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Are a cloud platform expert: You have proven experience designing and building production-grade platform capabilities across AWS, GCP, or Azure.

Are engineering-driven: You treat infrastructure as software and are highly comfortable with Terraform, automation, CI/CD, and modern DevOps practices.

Understand secure foundations: You have expert-level knowledge of infrastructure, provisioning, identity provider integration, IAM, access control, and platform security patterns.

Lead by example: You combine deep technical expertise with the ability to guide, challenge and inspire other engineers.

Stay ahead of the curve: You have a genuine interest in AI platforms, generative AI, and agentic workflows, and you know how to adopt new capabilities pragmatically and safely.

What we're looking for:

Education and Experience:
- A BSc, MSc, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Security, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of experience in cloud, infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, or similar technical leadership roles.
- Documented experience leading engineers and setting technical direction in complex technology environments.

Required qualifications:
- Expert-level knowledge of infrastructure, provisioning, automation, and Infrastructure as Code, with Terraform as an essential skill.
- Experience with AI platform services and ecosystems such as AWS Bedrock/AgentCore, Google Gemini, or Azure AI Foundry.
- Strong understanding of IdP integration, IAM, federation, secrets management, and secure access patterns in enterprise environments.
- Experience building production-grade CI/CD pipelines, observability, and operational controls for platforms.
- Ability to evaluate trade-offs between speed, cost, scalability, resilience, and compliance.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to prepare and drive presentations, explain platform decisions, and act as a subject matter expert for Cloud AI Platforms.
