DTU Physics, at the 3DIM facility in Lyngby, seeks student assistants to handle X‑ray CT data and contribute to DANFIX activities. You will acquire CT data, analyze and visualize results, and support DANFIX operations while learning in a research environment.
The role emphasizes a blend of physics and computer science, with curiosity and willingness to learn as essential traits. Flexible tasks include project support and data processing alongside researchers at DTU Lyngby Campus.
Are you curious about X‑ray imaging, data processing and how computed tomography can reveal the internal structure of materials? Would you like to combine practical data acquisition with analysis and visualization while learning in a research environment?
Then this position at 3DIM could be a great opportunity for you.
As a student assistant at 3DIM, you will contribute to DANFIX activities and work with a broad range of tasks, including:
We are looking for students with an interest in data processing and scientific imaging. A background combining physics and computer science is highly relevant, but students from other fields are also encouraged to apply.
Previous experience with CT is not required. Most importantly, you are curious and willing to learn about the methods, instruments and research areas we work with.
Experience with data processing, programming or visualisation is an advantage, but we also expect that many of the relevant skills will be developed as part of the job.
We value curiosity, collaboration and a willingness to take on different types of tasks. You should enjoy working with both practical data acquisition and computer‑based data processing and be comfortable learning new methods as the work develops.
We provide a varied working environment where you will gain hands‑on experience with X‑ray CT, data acquisition, data analysis and visualisation while working together with researchers and users of the facility.
The positions are approximately 8 hours per week, with flexible scheduling. You can organise your hours in relation to your studies, exams and other commitments.
You will have the opportunity to become familiar with many different types of materials and research questions, and to see how researchers use CT as part of their investigations.
At DTU, you will be part of one of Europe’s leading research and educational institutions. You enter an organisation that aims to develop knowledge at an international level. You can look forward to a challenging and developing workplace with high professionalism. Of course, we make sure that you get the necessary sparring and competence development at the same time.
The appointment will be based on the multi‑union collective agreement for the Organisations of Public Employees—Denmark (State) (OAO‑S) and the trade union agreement for clerical staff etc. (HK/State). Another option is the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). In addition, supplements can be negotiated in accordance with DTU’s salary structure for academic staff employed in technical‑administrative positions at DTU (AC TAP): www.inside.dtu.dk/en/human-resources/during-employment/salary/salary-structures.
Working hours are on average 8 hours per week and can be organised flexibly in relation to holidays, exams, etc. Starting date is according to mutual agreement. The employment runs as long as you are an active student.
The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.
The application deadline is 31 October 2026 (23:59 Danish time).
All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, disability, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply. As DTU works with research in critical technology, which is subject to special rules for security and export control, open‑source background checks may be conducted on qualified candidates for the position.
3D Imaging Centre (3DIM) at DTU is a competence centre for X‑ray and neutron imaging and is home to DANFIX, the Danish National Facility for Imaging with X‑rays. DANFIX provides access to advanced X‑ray CT for non‑destructive investigations of many different types of materials and objects.
Materials Physics in Time and Space (4DMAP) exploits leading expertise in x-ray and neutron science to gain unique insights in hard, soft and biological materials across time and length scales. Advanced measurements and simulation are performed both in‑house and at international facilities, e.g. synchrotrons and free‑electron lasers.
