Overview

We are seeking talented scientists and engineers to build algorithms and applications for fault‑tolerant quantum computers at Microsoft Quantum. The role involves collaborating with world‑class scientists, driving innovation across quantum applications, development platforms, and hybrid quantum‑classical workflows, and working in a culture of respect, integrity, and accountability.

Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Physical Sciences, Software Engineering, or related field and experience in commercial software, compilers, scientific computing applications, or multi‑component systems.
  • Master’s degree in the same fields and significant experience in the above areas.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the same fields and solid experience in commercial software, compilers, scientific computing applications, or multi‑component systems.
  • Equivalent experience in one of the above disciplines.
  • Solid experience in high‑performance computing, quantum algorithms, quantum error correction, or quantum simulation.
  • Experience developing and implementing quantum algorithms, preferably for fault‑tolerant systems.
  • Experience with high‑performance classical computing methods.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Methodical problem‑solving and critical‑thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of AI tools for performance modeling, analysis, and task automation.
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop algorithms and applications for fault‑tolerant quantum computers.
  • Develop and apply advanced toolsets for modeling quantum algorithms and applications on diverse hardware architectures, determining the quantum resources required.
  • Develop and apply new techniques for application‑ and architecture‑aware quantum circuit compilation and optimization.
  • Accelerate the deterministic progression of technology readiness levels for fault‑tolerant quantum applications.
  • Mitigate systemic risks by establishing rigorous resource‑requirement benchmarks for logical qubit architectures.
  • Facilitate the seamless integration of quantum subroutines into global high‑performance computing infrastructures.
  • Reduce iteration friction in the development of application‑aware quantum circuit compilation strategies.
  • Strengthen the competitive positioning of industrial leaders through early‑mover expertise in hybrid workflows.
  • Harmonize abstract mathematical research with operational constraints of emerging quantum hardware backends.
  • Support the scaling of quantum adoption by identifying high‑impact use cases across diversified lines of business.
  • Shorten the transition time between the NISQ era and scalable, error‑corrected computation.
  • Improve the reliability of multi‑stakeholder research initiatives through standardized architectural best practices.
  • Protect capital‑intensive investments by providing expert validation of algorithmic efficiency and scalability.
  • Enable the strategic orchestration of development efforts across fragmented global quantum hardware ecosystems.
