Job summary

NACOS Marine seeks an experienced Senior Software Developer (m/f/d) – I/O Firmware to join our R&D team. You will design, implement, and validate embedded firmware for real-time maritime systems, working with ARM Cortex-M and similar MCUs.

You will collaborate across hardware and software disciplines to ensure secure, reliable operation. Responsibilities include SCRUM leadership, protocol stack development, and integration with RTOS environments like Embedded Linux/FreeRTOS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field.
• Extensive experience in embedded firmware and protocol development.
• Strong proficiency in C and C++ for embedded systems.
• Experience implementing communication protocols and protocol stacks.
• Understanding of microcontroller architectures, low-level drivers, DMA, interrupts, and peripherals.
• Experience with RTOS concepts and real-time software architectures.
• SCRUM Master experience and agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Act as SCRUM Master within the development team and support agile processes.
• Design, develop, and optimize embedded firmware for resource-constrained systems using C/C++.
• Develop software for Cortex-M, RISC-V, and similar microcontrollers.
• Design and implement protocol stacks and interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, TCP/IP, BLE, Zigbee, LoRa, Modbus, MQTT).
• Develop transport, session, and application-layer functionality with state machines and protocol framing.
• Define protocol specifications, packet formats, and state models.
• Optimize firmware for latency, throughput, memory, and power.
• Implement cybersecurity features including authentication and secure boot.
• Integrate software with RTOS environments (Embedded Linux, FreeRTOS, Zephyr).
• Develop automated tests, unit tests, and protocol validation frameworks.
• Troubleshoot firmware and communication issues with tools like oscilloscopes and protocol analyzers.
• Collaborate with hardware, QA, and systems engineering throughout product lifecycle.
• Review designs, code, and docs; maintain developer docs and API references.
• Provide mentoring and continuous improvement within the team.
