Job summary

Kirby Group Engineering seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead engineering activities on a major construction project in Milan, coordinating design with on-site installation through commissioning. You will ensure the Kirby Group vision, mission and values are fulfilled while driving quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities include design reviews, submittals, supplier and contractor interface management, and collaboration with BIM and project teams.

Qualifications

  • 3rd level qualification in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
  • Experience with LV/MV systems in building services and data centres.
  • Knowledge of design guides, codes and standards (ETCI/BS7671/EN/IEC).
  • Experience with Amtech, Dialux, AutoCAD 2D and MS Office.
  • Experience liaising with clients, vendors and contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in engineering design and design management on projects as part of an integrated team.
  • Coordinate technical design from on-site installation through commissioning.
  • Review designs, validate cable sizing and resolve technical issues promptly.
  • Compile electrical submittals, manage approvals and track procurement.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support QA, safety and project controls.
  • Provide off-site technical support to construction teams and liaise with BIM for constructibility.

Role Purpose

As Senior Electrical Engineer based in Milan, Italy you will be responsible for the engineering activities on a specific construction project. The activities associated with the project will vary and will be agreed with the Project Manager on an ongoing basis. You will co-ordinate the technical design with the onsite installation through to the successful commissioning ensuring that the Kirby Group vision, mission & values are fulfilled.

Senior Electrical Engineer Responsibilities

In conjunction with your project team, you will be responsible for the execution of various stages of a project as follows:

  • Complete electrical design review to identify design gaps and deviations or contradictions in the specifications.
  • Validate cable sizing and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Ensure that technical assessments are completed as required and technical issues are resolved without delay.
  • Compile and issue electrical technical submittals.
  • Manage submittals through the approvals process, track procurement and delivery of electrical equipment and complete the receipt verification process once the equipment is delivered.
  • Attend & record regular supply chain meetings to ensure that progress is monitored & maintained within the overall construction programme.
  • Update and record progress on system trackers which are fully aligned with the construction schedule.
  • Review the electrical installation with the BIM team to ensure the design is constructible and that there is adequate space for installation and maintenance of all equipment and cabling.
  • Liaise with the design team & supply chain to ensure correct operation of the plant on site & successful handover.
  • Complete electrical system walk-downs to ensure systems are compliant with specifications and drawings.
  • Compile test pack, FTOP's and O&Ms and present for approval.
  • Manage specialist vendors during the commissioning process to ensure timely completion of their works.
  • Undertake client training in line with agreed training plan.
  • Lead Engineering Design and Design Management tasks on Projects as part of an integrated project team,
  • Strong technical ability in all aspects of Electrical Engineering Services & Design,
  • Proactive with a strong ability to work independently and without supervision,
  • Design and specification of Electrical Engineering Solutions to current regulations and design standards,
  • Working directly with clients and project engineers to define project requirements and develop technical solutions,
  • Develop and agree design processes and design deliverables,
  • Lead Pre-Construction Engineering activities and the production of information including, design development, construction details, services coordination, technical submittals, sub-contracts, etc,
  • Assist in the continual improvement of the QA System and execute project reviews,
  • Provide technical support to the estimating, procurement, commercial, marketing and project bid teams,
  • Provide off site technical support to construction teams on projects,
Necessary requirement of the Senior Electrical Engineer
  • 3rd level Qualification in Electrical Engineering / Building Services Engineering.
  • Experience with both LV and MV systems primarily in building services and data centre environments.
  • Knowledge & experience of current Design Guides, Codes of Practice, ETCI and or BS7671 Regulations, Building Regulations, EN Standards and IEC Standards, etc,
  • Experience in Amtech, Dialux, Adobe Pro, Autodesk AutoCAD 2D and MS Office Suite Software,
  • Experience of client, vendor & contractor interaction & management,
  • Significant Project engineering experience of 7 years+ ideally in a construction environment.
  • Previous record of delivering Electrical projects (Commercial, Industrial, pharma, data centre type projects)
  • Commercial Awareness
  • Capability of walking down electrical systems to ensure compliance with specification
  • Experience developing technical submittals, completing technical reviews and assessments.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental systems and procedures – knowledge of the team, their strengths and weaknesses
  • The ability to multi-task and manage many priorities
  • Excellent communicator/strong interpersonal skills/communicates with impact
  • Excellent record keeper and administration skills
  • Leads and influences others.
