Job summary

MapsPeople is seeking a Senior Android Developer to lead architecture, code reviews, and SDK development for our mobile platform. You will mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and actively contribute to Kotlin/Java-based Android SDKs.

You will migrate legacy code to Kotlin, build cross-platform bindings for Flutter/React Native, and optimize map rendering with Mapbox or Google Maps while collaborating across teams.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of professional experience with Android codebases in Kotlin and Java.
• Strong understanding of interoperability between Kotlin and Java and best practices.
• UI and app development experience is helpful but not the primary focus.
• Lead by example as a hands-on technical contributor while mentoring engineers across the team.

Responsibilities

• Implement new features in the Android SDK (Java/Kotlin).
• Maintain and improve the SDK by fixing bugs and improving stability.
• Migrate legacy code from Java to Kotlin to enhance maintainability and performance.
• Contribute to new SDK versions, primarily in Kotlin Multiplatform.
• Build and maintain binding layers exposing the native Android SDK to Flutter and React Native.
• Optimize map rendering and performance using Mapbox Maps and/or Google Maps.
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure consistent architecture and high standards.
