Job description

Om stillingenApplications are invited for two part-time research assistant positions with SDU Health Informatics and Technology (HIT), The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute (MMMI), University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Odense. Both positions are for 1 years at 25% (9,25 hours/week). The planned starting date for the positions is October 1, 2026.

Tasks

Both research assistant positions will focus on development of AI-based decision support. One position will be related to a joint project with Hospital Sønderjylland (Sønderborg) on personalized cardiovascular risk prediction and diagnostic support for patients with advanced kidney disease. The other position will be related to a joint project with Lillebælt Hospital (Vejle) on detection of smoking status and symptoms for lung cancer patients.

Ideal candidates

To qualify for the positions, you must hold a M.Sc. degree in software engineering, artificial intelligence, computer science, or a related discipline. The ideal candidates will have many of the following competences.

  • artificial intelligence experience (including explainability and interpretability)
  • experience in development of AI-augmented decision support tools
  • experience in interdisciplinary work
  • experience in working with external stakeholders and domain experts
  • knowledge of the health domain
About MMMI and SDU HIT

MMMI is an internationally recognized research department that conducts research within robotics, drone technology, artificial intelligence, I4.0, software engineering as well as health and energy informatics. SDU HIT conducts interdisciplinary research related to data driven health technology in close collaboration with experts from various fields. There is a strong emphasis on the development of high TRL systems related to intelligent monitoring and decision support; predictive models for prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis; digital health systems offering novel personalized data collection, treatment plans and interventions. SDU HIT has research activities in areas such as geriatrics, mental health, compassion, cancer, cardiology, kidney disease, osteoporosis, and multiple sclerosis.

Assessment of candidates

Assessment of candidates is based on the application material, and the application must include:

Assessment and selection process

Employment terms

This appointment as a research assistant is part-time and temporary for an initial 1-year period, and the preferred start date is from October 1, 2026. Extension may be possible depending on available funding.

Qualifications and employment details

Employment as a research assistant requires qualifications at minimum master’s level (equivalent to a Danish master’s degree) at the time of employment.

Employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state including the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for research assistant as described therein.

Salary is determined in accordance with the applicable collective agreement and based on objective and gender-neutral criteria, including the content of the position, responsibilities, and qualification requirements. As an applicant, you are entitled to information about the starting salary and salary range for the position. This information will be provided during the recruitment process.
