Job description

Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (DTU Compute) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) invites applications for a professor position in Statistics.

We are seeking a highly qualified individual to strengthen our research profile in biostatistics and human health and to contribute to addressing important societal challenges through research, education, and academic leadership.

As a leading expert in the field, the successful candidate will help shape and further develop the institute's scientific activities within statistics, spanning both methodological foundations and applications of societal relevance.

Responsibilities and qualifications

We are seeking a top scientist with a research program in engineering and statistics that focuses on biostatistics and environmental statistics in general, and human health in particular, based on a strong theoretical foundation that enables detailed insight into the translation from scientific results to potentials for applications, being able to utilize the specific Danish societal organization with a highly registered population.

The successful applicant combines a strong theoretical foundation with deep experience within applied statistics, allowing supervision of applications within a broad-spectered domain area.

You are expected to:

  • Hold a PhD in Mathematical Statistics, Biostatics or a closely related field.
  • Hold a broad and deep knowledge of statistical principles and applications, applicable to modern data science.
  • Demonstrate an outstanding record of research accomplishments within biostatistics, environmental statistics and/or human health, including a strong publication record and a history of grant applications.
  • Have a documented impact on societal values, progression and/or development.
  • Have a broad knowledge of non-trivial engineering applications that may promote cross-disciplinary cooperation withing DTU.
  • Have a strong leadership profile and the ability to foster interdisciplinary research.
  • Possess teaching experience and teaching qualifications at the undergraduate and graduate level, with the ability to adapt and develop teaching to address scientific progression and societal needs.
  • Have a track record of supervision of supervision of graduate students/post-doctoral researchers.

You will be placed in the section for Statistics and data analysis. You are expected to play a foundational role in advancing the field and guiding the academic future of the section, by performing cutting edge research within the areas covered by the section, by engaging in scientific advice that the section carries out, and by taking part in the activities within teaching that the section is responsible for.

You are expected to take a lead role in teaching at the BEng, BSc, MSc and PhD levels.

DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
