DTU - Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a postdoctoral position within the MOONPRINT project, focusing on laser-matter interactions in vacuum and moon-like regolith processing. Qualifications

  • Hold a PhD in mechanical engineering, materials science, computational engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong background in CFD and multiphysics modelling, including experience with laser-material interactions, advanced manufacturing processes, or related applications.
  • Experience modelling multiphase systems involving melt, gas/vapor, and particle dynamics using CFD, DEM, Lagrangian particle tracking, or coupled CFD-particle methods.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an advanced computational framework for laser-induced vapor-plume-particle interactions under vacuum conditions.
  • Develop high-fidelity numerical models of heat and mass transfer, melting, evaporation, and vapor-plume formation and expansion.
  • Validate models against dedicated high-vacuum laser-processing experiments and investigate parameter effects on process stability and material redistribution.
  • Collaborate with researchers on laser-regolith experiments, process monitoring, and development; contribute to supervision and teaching; publish in journals and present at conferences.
