Job summary

Aarhus University’s Department of Ecoscience invites applications for a Villum Foundation funded postdoctoral position in environmental genomics, microbiome ecology and pollinator health, located in Risø with start 1 February 2027 for two years.

The successful candidate will lead research on microbial communities in freshwater habitats and pollinators, using environmental genomics, metabarcoding and metagenomics, and collaborate with PhD students and international partners.

Qualifications

• PhD in ecology, molecular ecology, genomics, microbiology, bioinformatics, environmental science, or related discipline.
• Experience in pollinator or insect ecology.
• Experience in microbial ecology.
• Experience in metagenomics or metabarcoding.
• Experience in bioinformatics and analysis of high-throughput sequencing data.
• Statistical analysis using R and/or Python.
• Reproducible computational workflows and scientific writing.
• Microbiome research and host-associated microbial communities.

Responsibilities

• Design and coordinate large-scale field studies across multiple seasons.
• Collect and process environmental and insect samples for DNA sequencing.
• Analyse microbial communities associated with freshwater habitats and pollinators.
• Direct and support analysis of high-throughput sequencing datasets, including eDNA, metabarcoding and metagenomic data.
• Integrate molecular, ecological and environmental datasets to address biodiversity and pollinator health questions.
• Co-supervising MSc and PhD students.
• Publish research in leading international journals.
• Participate in international collaborations and scientific conferences.
