Job summary

Aarhus University, Department of Biology, invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position focused on biodiversity forecasting, vegetation dynamics and rewilding across Europe. Start date expected 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible.

The role integrates ecological, demographic, environmental and remote-sensing data to develop scenario-based forecasts of European vegetation and biodiversity dynamics, with collaboration across Europe and the ECONOVO center.

Qualifications

• PhD or near-completion in ecology or related field with strong modelling background.
• Experience with spatial ecological modelling and biodiversity forecasting.
• Proficiency in R and/or Python and reproducible workflows.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, harmonise and analyse large biodiversity and remote-sensing datasets.
• Develop spatial forecasts of plant diversity under climate and land-use scenarios to 2100 (and 2300 where applicable).
• Build and/or integrate species distribution models and dynamic vegetation models.
• Quantify uncertainty and identify drivers of biodiversity change.
• Link forecasts to functional traits and ecosystem indicators; assess rewilding trajectories.
• Collaborate with European partners and contribute to publications and policy outputs.
