Job summary

The Niels Bohr Institute Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a Postdoctoral position in experimental quantum optics. The successful candidate will join the Hy-Q center led by Profs.

Lodahl and Sørensen to develop quantum gates between ground state spins in nearby quantum dots and supervise PhD students who may join later. Our quantum photonics group works on deterministic photon sources and photonic quantum computing.

Responsibilities

  • Research within the areas described above.
  • Daily supervision of Ph.D. students who may join the project.
  • Developing a novel type of quantum gates between ground state spins in nearby quantum dots.

Job description

Niels Bohr Institute Faculty of Science University of Copenhagen

A post doc position is available within experimental quantum optics at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen. The position will be part of the experimental quantum photonics group and the Center for Hybrid Quantum Networks (Hy‑Q) headed by Profs. Peter Lodahl and Anders. S. Sørensen. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a novel type of quantum gates between ground state spins in nearby quantum dot and will be the daily supervisor of Ph.D. students who may join the project at a later stage.

The quantum photonics group specializes in developing quantum photonic nanostructures containing quantum dots for deterministic photon sources including single-photon sources, multi-photon entanglement sources and coupled quantum emitters. The developed hardware is employed for quantum‑information processing applications for advanced quantum communication and photonic quantum computing.

Hy‑Q is a center of excellence funded by the Danish National Research Foundation, which combines experimental and theoretical research within optomechanics, single photon emitters and nanophotonics. The center has approximately 50 researchers and is characterized by close daily interactions between the member of the center, both socially and scientifically.

The postdoc’s duties will include research within the areas described above. The post may also include performance of other duties.

Further information on the Department is linked at http://www.science.ku.dk/english/about-the-faculty/organisation/. Inquiries about the position can be made to Prof. Peter Lodahl, lodahl@nbi.dk , phone: (+45)20565303 or the Director of Hy‑Q Prof. Anders S. Sørensen, anders.sorensen@nbi.ku.dk , Phone (+45) 24661377

The position is open from 1 March 2027or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is for 2 years.

The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.

Terms of employment

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.

You can read more about salary levels in the state sector www.loenoverblik.dk (in Danish).

When you will be affiliated with the University of Copenhagen or otherwise have access to their research, you may be required to undergo a background screening. The purpose is to protect the security and research integrity of the University of Copenhagen.

If it is deemed appropriate from an overall perspective, you must be prepared to be security screened, in relation to international research and innovation collaboration, as part of the employment process at the University of Copenhagen.

Please include
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Diplomas (Master and PhD degree or equivalent)
  • Research plan – description of current and future research plans
  • Complete publication list
  • Separate reprints of 3 particularly relevant papers

The deadline for applications is 8 November 2026, 23:59 GMT +1.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Interview Committee.
