Job summary

DTU Construct in Denmark seeks a modeller to predict the evolution of internal structures in metals during plastic deformation and its relation to mechanical properties. The PhD scholarship is a joint DTU Construct/DTU Physics project with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration and a world-leading research environment.

The position is a full-time PhD for 3 years, starting 01/10/2026 (or by mutual agreement).

Job description

Are you passionate about modelling, mechanics and materials science? If so, this position might be perfect for you. We are seeking a modeller to predict the evolution of internal structures in metals during plastic deformation - i.e. changes in shape due to mechanical forces - and how this relates to mechanical properties. We have first-of-its kind experimental data to inspire and validate modelling procedures and predictions.

About Us: You will join an international and highly multidisciplinary team of approximately 10 PhDs and postdocs, fostering a strong collaboration between DTU Construct and DTU Physics. Our group is a global leader in the field of metal plasticity. DTU Physics invented the synchrotron-based imaging technique Dark-Field X-ray Microscopy and together we utilize it to visualize the evolution of internal structures in metals during plastic deformation, i.e. changes in shape due to mechanical forces. We work with leading international groups on modeling and conduct simulations at DTU. Our overarching goal is to understand and predict the mechanical behavior of metals during plastic deformation.

You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

Approval and Enrolment

Salary and appointment terms
