Job summary

Novo Nordisk is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join the Research Tech Delivery team in AI & Digital Innovation, R&D. You will drive the design and implementation of scalable, secure software solutions, from early proofs of concept to enterprise-grade production systems.

You will collaborate with researchers, product managers, data engineers, and software engineers in a highly collaborative, international environment to deliver platform-focused innovations and data integrations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with technical leadership.
• Strong experience designing end-to-end architectures across applications, integration, data, search, and cloud layers.
• Backend development with Python, API design, distributed systems, and SOA.
• Experience with integration patterns, event-driven architectures, and data-intensive systems.
• Practical experience with Kafka, Kafka plugins, or managed Kafka services (e.g., Amazon MSK).
• Strong AWS and cloud-native skills including containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, IAM, monitoring, and security.

In this role, you will help shape and deliver innovative digital solutions that combine modern web technologies, cloud platforms, data services, search capabilities, and agentic AI applications. This is a hands-on technical leadership position where you will define technical direction, make architecture decisions, and actively contribute to development. You will work closely with researchers, product managers, data engineers, and software engineers in a highly collaborative and international environment.

The Position

As Lead Software Engineer, you will drive the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions, from early proof-of-concepts to enterprise-grade production systems.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

• Leading the technical direction of end-to-end digital products.


• Design and develop applications using modern technologies, with the ability to analyze, integrate, and leverage existing solutions.


• Defining architecture across applications, integration, data, search, and cloud layers.


• Establishing observability, security, quality, and relevant engineering practices.


• Collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to balance innovation, scalability, security, and business value.


• Work on Improvements and extensions to the existing digital product, including new data sources.


• Experience delivering platform-focused proofs of concept and infrastructure solutions, including Kafka plugins and AWS MSK.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, we expect you to have:

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field. 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including experience leading technical direction and architecture for complex digital products.


• Strong experience designing end-to-end architectures across applications, integration, data, search, and cloud layers.


• Strong backend development experience with Python, API design, distributed systems, and service-oriented architectures.


• Experience designing and implementing integration patterns, event-driven architectures, and data-intensive systems.


• Practical experience with Apache Kafka, Kafka plugins, or managed Kafka services such as Amazon MSK.


• Strong experience with AWS services and cloud-native technologies, including containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, IAM, monitoring, and security.


• Experience designing automated testing strategies and implementing secure software development practices.


• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and influence decisions across technical and business teams.

Good To Have (not Mandatory)

• Amazon QuickSight or similar tools for building dashboards and monitoring data volumes.


• Conceptual understanding of OpenSearch, vector databases, or graph databases.


• Understanding of working with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Vue.js, or Angular.


• Understanding of working with integrating LLM-powered applications, AI agents, RAG solutions, or intelligent workflow systems


• Scientific, pharmaceutical, research, or other regulated industries.

Salary: For this role, the Annual Base Salary ranges from 742,600.00 to 1,091,600.00 DKK, corresponding to the level of the position.

The placement within the salary range will be assessed during the recruitment process based on the candidate's skills, competencies, knowledge, and relevant experience.
