Job Description: Are you passionate about embedded software and eager to develop drivers that enable physical/electrical network interfaces? Do you thrive when creating software for automotive and other safety-critical industries, and enjoy working close to the hardware? Microchip Denmark is looking for a new colleague to join our local software team, focusing on OS-agnostic C-API products that interface directly with the physical Ethernet layers. You will be part of a highly skilled team working closely with cross-functional groups designing chips, testing them, and supporting customers. Your work will directly impact the performance and reliability of Ethernet interfaces used in automotive and industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain OS-agnostic C APIs for physical network interfaces.
  • Bring up and tune a variety of interfaces, ranging from 10 Mbit MII to high-speed Ethernet SerDes interfaces (1G-25G).
  • Understand and implement PCS and MAC layer functionality from a software driver perspective.
  • Develop and maintain PHY drivers for various Ethernet standards including 1000BASE-T, 1000BASE-T1, 10BASE-T1S, etc.
  • Contribute to the associated switch driver as well.
  • Write MISRA-compliant C code in accordance with ASPICE and automotive safety standards.
  • Contribute to the automated testing infrastructure and help maintain test platforms.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Strong proficiency in C and embedded software development.
  • Experience with, or a strong interest in, physical Ethernet layers, PHYs, and interface standards.
  • A willingness to work close to hardware and investigate problems using datasheets, specifications, registers, test equipment, and debug tools.
  • Experience working in regulated environments with demanding safety, quality, and reliability requirements.
  • A structured and analytical approach to troubleshooting complex technical issues.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative, cross-functional team.
  • Good written and spoken English communication skills.
  • A relevant technical education and five or more years of applicable experience.
Additional experience that would be an advantage
  • Experience with Ethernet switch SoCs, PHYs, or network interface drivers.
  • Knowledge of IEEE 802.1Q and fundamental Layer 2 forwarding concepts.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet bring-up, link training, auto-negotiation, PCS, MAC, SerDes, or MDIO management.
  • Experience with automotive or industrial Ethernet technologies.
  • Knowledge of Git, MISRA, ASPICE, ISO 26262, IEC 62443, or similar standards and processes.
  • Experience participating in standardization bodies, industry consortia, or technical working groups.
  • Experience with Linux user-space or kernel-space development.
  • Experience with Ruby, CMake, automated testing, or continuous integration.
  • Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools, with an understanding of responsible use, verification, code ownership, and security considerations.
What we offer
  • A key role in a team developing advanced Ethernet technologies for automotive and industrial applications.
  • The opportunity to work directly with hardware and influence products from early chip bring-up through production.
