Job summary

Novo Nordisk Manufacturing in Kalundborg is seeking an Automation Engineer to join a project transitioning from detailed design to qualification and commissioning. You will ensure automated solutions meet process requirements, GMP standards, and site needs while supporting long-term operations.

You will review DCS deliverables, support vendor activities, and participate in FAT/SAT, commissioning, qualification, and validation.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in automation, engineering, IT, process control, or related field.
  • 0–5 years of experience in automation, DCS, IT/OT, or industrial control systems.
  • Experience with DCS 800xA or equivalent DC systems.
  • Knowledge of GMP, validation, change control, and pharma documentation.
  • Understanding of system integration between DCS and PLC, MES, PI Historian, and instruments.
  • Strong English communication, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

  • Review automation design and documentation to ensure alignment with process requirements, GMP expectations, project standards, and site needs.
  • Reviewing DCS implementation deliverables (logic, graphics, alarms, trends, system functionality) for quality and maintainability.
  • Coordinate vendor implementation activities to deliver DCS per scope, standards and timelines.
  • Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning, qualification, and validation activities to verify solution works as intended.
  • Review and support integration between DCS and PLC, MES, PI Historian and instruments.
  • Support GMP documentation, change control, risk assessments, deviation handling, and data integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support handover to operations, including review of as-built documentation and knowledge transfer.

Your new role

As an Automation Engineer, you are joining a project that transition from detailed design to qualification and commissioning, ensuring the successful implementation of automation solutions and supporting long-term operations.

Your main responsibilities
  • -Reviewing automation design and technical documentation to ensure alignment with process requirements, GMP expectations, project standards, and site needs
  • -Reviewing DCS implementation deliverables, including control logic, graphics, alarms, trends, and system functionality, to ensure quality and maintainability
  • -Supporting and following up on vendor implementation activities to ensure the DCS solution is delivered according to agreed scope, standards, and timelines
  • -Participating in FAT, SAT, commissioning, qualification, and validation activities to verify that the implemented solution works as intended
  • -Reviewing and supporting integration activities between the DCS and other systems such as PLC, MES, PI Historian, instruments, and package equipment
  • -Supporting GMP documentation, change control, risk assessments, deviation handling, and data integrity requirements throughout the project lifecycle
  • -Supporting handover to operations, including review of as-built documentation, knowledge transfer, maintenance setup, and hypercare after go-live

You will become part of Novo Nordisk Manufacturing in Kalundborg – a global hub producing essential biopharmaceutical products, including half of the world’s insulin. With more than 50 years of experience in large-scale biotech manufacturing, the site offers a highly collaborative and purpose-driven environment.

The role is primarily based in Kalundborg, with expected collaboration across sites in the Greater Copenhagen area.

Your skills and qualifications

We are looking for a proactive and structured professional who thrives in a collaborative and international environment.

To succeed in this role, you should have:
  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. within automation, engineering, IT, process control, or another relevant technical field
  • 0 - 5 years of experience within automation, DCS, IT/OT systems, or industrial control systems, preferably from a project or production environment
  • Experience with DCS 800xA or strong experience with other DCs systems
  • Good understanding of automation design, system configuration, testing, commissioning, and handover to operations
  • Knowledge of GMP, validation, change control, and documentation requirements from pharma or another regulated industry
  • Understanding of system integration between DCS and systems such as PLC, MES, PI Historian and instruments
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken

What we offer

Salary: For this role, the Annual Base Salary ranges from 499,600 to 734,400 DKK, corresponding to the level of the position.

The placement within the salary range will be assessed during the recruitment process based on the candidate’s skills, competencies, knowledge, and relevant experience.
