Vestas' Loads & Control team seeks an engineer to shape wind turbine control technology and optimize performance. You will work across Denmark and Portugal with specialists in loads, software, and product development to advance control solutions.

Using MATLAB/Simulink and model-based methods, you will design, implement, validate, and refine control algorithms that improve energy production and turbine reliability. This role offers an international, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in control systems, dynamic modeling, and control theory.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink in industry, research, or academia.
  • Familiarity with software development practices and agile methods is a plus.

Loads & Control is part of Vestas Research & Development and plays a critical role in delivering design loads, advanced control solutions, and commercial performance deliverables, including power curves and noise assessments, across Vestas products. The department supports the entire product lifecycle, from early-stage feasibility studies and technology development to product implementation, validation, and lifecycle support.

Within Loads & Control, the Control Technologies team is responsible for developing and maintaining the advanced control functionality that determines how wind turbines operate under varying wind conditions, optimize power production, balance component loads, and ensure safe and reliable turbine operation.

Our team consists of highly skilled engineers located across Denmark and Portugal, working closely with specialists in loads, software development, systems engineering, and product development to shape the future of wind turbine technology.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and enhance advanced wind turbine control solutions to improve turbine performance, operational robustness, and energy production
  • Design, implement, and validate control algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink and model-based development approaches
  • Support technology development from early-stage feasibility studies through implementation, testing, and product integration
  • Perform simulations, software verification, and prototype validation to ensure reliable and high-quality control system performance
  • Analyze engineering data and turbine behavior to identify improvement opportunities and optimize control strategies
  • Collaborate with specialists across Loads & Control, software development, systems engineering, and product development teams globally
  • Contribute to technical reviews, documentation, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives that support Vestas' future control technologies
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Good foundation in control systems, dynamic system modeling, and control theory
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink gained through industry, research, or academic projects
  • Ability to develop, analyze, and solve complex engineering and control-related challengesAnalytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills
  • Industry experience in control engineering, automation, renewable energy, aerospace, or similar domains is an advantage
  • Familiarity with software development practices, version control tools (e.g., Git), and agile ways of working is considered beneficial
