We invite applications for an associate professorship focusing on inclusive classroom collaboration and teaching that fosters student engagement in the higher education (university) setting.

About this position

The position calls for creative, interdisciplinary scholars able to bridge empirical and philosophical traditions within the learning sciences. We expect you to have a deep understanding of the underlying cognitive mechanisms, as well as the experiential conditions supporting motivation and engagement.

We are looking for a colleague working with topics like universal design, inclusivity, belonging, accessibility, transformative pedagogy, collaborative learning, difficult university classroom conversations or conflicts, student engagement, and motivation in higher education.

At CED, an associate professor’s time divides equally between research and teaching. We expect you to contribute to CED´s research environment, while taking an active role in our university teacher training program and the development of innovative pedagogical approaches across AU. We expect you to be passionate about translating research into educational practice.

About your expected tasks and responsibilities

Your primary tasks and responsibilities as an associate professor at CED are to

You have

About the Centre for Educational Development (CED) at Aarhus University (AU)

CED is the educational development and teaching-learning centre at AU. The mission of CED is to inspire engaging teaching and excellent educations at Aarhus University.

We offer all faculties, staff, and educational leaders at AU courses and workshops, practical partnership, and collaboration about their students, their teaching, their curricula and programs, to foster and assist the implementation of research-based educational development. We also run, support, develop, and inspire the use of learning technologies at AU.

CED employs about 60 colleagues organized into three departments specialized in digital development, teaching development, and program development, respectively, plus a small administration. We have a good collegial atmosphere characterized by a high degree of collaboration and continuous professional development. We value inquiry, co-creation, empowerment, and expertise.

The research group at CED works within and across the three departments. The group presently comprises six associate professors, four assistant professors, two postdocs, five PhD-students and three research assistants.

The group has ongoing research on topics that include student learning, transitions and career, university teacher development and educational leadership, health sciences education, natural sciences education, and learning technologies in higher education. We come from a wide range of research methods and theoretical frameworks, but all focus on applied higher education research.

Conditions and place of employment

The position is full time (37 hours per week).

Expected start date 1 February 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful applicant will refer to the department manager of Teaching Development at CED. The Centre director lead the research group across the three departments.

We use shortlisting in the hiring process lead by the centre director. In the shortlisting process, we exclude applicants that are far from being eligible for the described position.

After the shortlisting process, an assessment committee with international participation gives their written summary concerning each of the shortlisted applicants. Based on these summaries of qualifications, an employment committee of future colleagues from CED invite the best 3-4 applicants for an interview.

Interviews are expected to take place in December.
