Job summary

Aalborg University in Aalborg invites applications for an Associate Professor in Clinical AI at CLINDA, starting 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is available for five years and comprises 7,4 hours per week (20%).

The successful candidate will lead a research group focused on multimodal clinical data for decision support, collaborate with European partners, and develop AI models while teaching data science and clinical AI across the faculty.

Job description

The Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Medicine

At the Center for Clinical Data Science (CLINDA), Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Aalborg University, a position as Associate Professor in Clinical AI is available for appointments as of 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is available for five years (until 31 December 2031) and comprises 7,4 hours per week (20%).

Your work tasks

The main responsibility of the position will be to lead and develop a research group in clinical AI with special focus on leveraging multimodal clinical data for clinical decision support. You will work in close collaboration with local, national, and international specialists on integrating the extensive clinical data throughout Europe for personalized medicine in non-communicable diseases like cancers and cardiovascular complications. Your key responsibility will be to develop new clinical AI models and solutions, but you will also take part in the planning of studies, contribute to writing scientific papers as well as acquiring funding. Furthermore, you will get responsibilities in our collaborative projects with the Center for General Practice, Aalborg University. Finally, teaching and supervision duties within medical AI and more generally data science at the Faculty of Medicine, Aalborg University, may be expected.

You should hold a PhD degree in biomedical engineering or a closely related field. You are expected to have experience with data analysis in a clinical context, as well as programming skills in R or Python and familiarity with command-line tools. Experience with data management and the analysis of large datasets is also required, along with a solid publication track record in data science. Furthermore, you should demonstrate strong motivation for interdisciplinary research and possess excellent writing and communication skills in English, supported by a well-developed scientific vocabulary. Qualification requirements

Appointment as an associate professor requires research and teaching qualifications at the level that can be achieved through the satisfactory completion of a period of employment as an assistant professor but may also be obtained in other ways.

It is a precondition that applicants have documented research at an international standard. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications.

Who we are

The Department of Clinical Medicine provides research-based teaching across all disciplines of the medical degree programme and conducts research within the clinical specialties. The department collaborates closely with hospitals in the North Denmark Region and general practice in both teaching and research. Medical students receive instruction at several hospital sites and in general practice throughout the region. The department is affiliated with approximately 40 research units, each representing a specific medical specialty. In addition, the department is also associated with several other research units and centres. CLINDA is a part of the Department of Clinical Medicine, Aalborg University and Aalborg University Hospital and works primarily with methodological development and application of bioinformatics, biostatistics, machine learning, and data management within clinical research. CLINDA is interdisciplinary and employs biostatisticians, bioinformaticians, software developers, and data managers who collaborate with molecular biologists and healthcare professionals throughout the Danish healthcare sector.
