Aarhus University invites applications for a fixed-term Research Assistant (25 hours per week) in the research projects headed by Professor Rubina Raja, School of Culture and Society. The position runs 1 January 2027 to 30 September 2027 and is based at the Department of History and Classical Studies, Aarhus C, Denmark.

The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Raja on data collection, editing, indexing, and analysis, perform literature searches and image processing, and assist

Qualifications

  • An MA in classical archaeology is required.
  • Proven experience in archaeology and cultural heritage of the Eastern Mediterranean, Near East and Western Asia.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Knowledge of other modern languages such as French, German and Italian.
  • Excellent attention to detail, including copyediting, proofreading and information gathering, including source-critical approaches.
  • Experience with editorial work and copyediting.
  • Flexibility to shift focus depending on assignments and deadlines.
  • Methodological and structured approach with exceptional organisational skills.
  • Excellent time-management and ability to meet publication deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills for coordinating data collection and publication processes.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting large research/publication projects (including copyediting and indexing).
  • Carrying out data collection, data management and analysis (under supervision).
  • Performing research tasks within classical archaeology: literature searches and image processing.
  • Supporting processes in connection with funding applications/reporting to funding agencies.
