The Department of Economics in the Faculty of Human and Business Sciences at Saarland University is seeking applications for the following position, commencing winter semester2026: W3 Professorship in Business Administration, focusing on Business Informatics for Data-Driven Enterprises (m/f/x; Reference no.: W2721).
The person appointed to this position will be expected to teach and conduct research across all areas of business informatics, with a particular focus on data-driven enterprises. The successful applicant will have a strong track record of sustained high-quality research as demonstrated through publications in leading international journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings in the fields of business informatics, information systems, data science or artificial intelligence.
The advertised professorship is aimed at candidates whose research focuses on the use of data-analytic technologies to support business transformation. Possible areas of research include, but are not limited to:
You will also be expected to demonstrate alignment with at least one of the existing research priorities within the Department of Economics (digital transformation, Europe, entrepreneurship, sustainability) and/or the university’s strategic research areas (BioMed – Life and Materials, Computer Science, Interdisciplinary European Studies). In addition, you should have a proven track record in acquiring and managing competitive, peer-reviewed externally funded projects in the field of digital technologies or data-driven business research (e.g. DFG, BMFTR, EU, AI initiatives). The professorship may offer opportunities to participate in DFKI. Integration into the Institute for Empirical Economic Research is also possible.

You will also contribute to teaching the subject across all business-related and economics degree programmes. If appointed, you will be expected to deliver innovative teaching concepts, provide dedicated supervision to students working on their final-year thesis projects, and support and foster junior researchers. You should also be willing to teach in German and English and to actively contribute to training in research methodology for doctoral students. You will also undertake university-related administrative duties commensurate with the position.
