Achieving climate-neutrality within the next 20 years necessitates an innovation boost for the development of highly efficient, scalable, low-cost, and sustainably produced energy technologies. Energy storage and conversion materials, particularly sustainable batteries, play a central role in this context.

We are looking for a IT System Administrator (m/f/d) for Scientific Computing in the department of Prof. Dr. D. Mollenhauer at our location in Jena.

Responsibilities
  • Support, maintenance, and administration of HIPOLE Jena's IT infrastructure, in particular high-performance computers (HPC systems), servers, and workstations
  • Installation, maintenance, and updates of scientific software packages
  • Supporting scientists in the use of HPC resources
  • Ensuring data security, developing and implementing backup strategies, and managing large amounts of data
  • Providing technical support for problems with software, hardware, and network infrastructure
  • Documentation of system configurations, software installations, and usage guidelines
  • Contribution to the further development of the IT infrastructure, e.g., by integrating new technologies
  • Organizing and conducting training courses on IT and HPC topics
  • Contact person to central IT and HPC services
Qualifications
  • Completed academic degree in computer science (or a related field); alternatively, completed training as an IT specialist or equivalent skills and knowledge, e.g., vocational training with several years of professional experience in the IT field; ideally with experience in a scientific environment
  • Very good knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems, ideally in the context of scientific computing
  • Experience in working with HPC systems, including cluster management and batch systems
  • Knowledge of installing and configuring scientific software, ideally in the field of theoretical chemistry/material modeling
  • Basic knowledge of programming languages or scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, or similar)
  • Strong team spirit, initiative, and willingness to engage in continuous professional development
  • Very good written and spoken German and English skills

You demonstrate a high level of commitment, initiative, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to familiarize yourself with a wide range of tasks. You are characterized by your teamwork skills, reliability, independence, and communication abilities.
