Job description:

DESY

The Laser Science and Technology Group at DESY is expanding due to an increased demand on ultrafast laser technology, which is key to a large variety of research efforts at DESY. High power, high repetition rate ultrafast lasers are essential for generating and manipulating the electron beams and for most of the science experiments at the X‑Ray Free Electron Laser facilities FLASH and European XFEL. We operate several ultrafast laser systems 24/7 with excellent availability, and our team focuses on the development of novel ultrafast high‑power laser systems covering the spectral range from ultraviolet to mid‑infrared. We develop in‑house laser diagnostics and controls, laser beam transport, and focusing to the optical interaction point. If you are a motivated and experienced electronics engineer with a passion for advanced controls and laser technology, please submit your application.

About your role:
  • Ensure the availability of laser systems and minimise downtime by collaborating with laser engineers and scientists
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot electronic control systems for ultrafast laser systems
  • Design and implement extensions and improvements to the control electronics
  • Specify and qualify electronic components, including obsolete parts
  • Fabricate and qualify prototypes
  • Prepare and support CE and DGUV tests
  • Document activities and create technical documentation, safety‑relevant documentation, handbooks, and training materials for laser operators
About you:
  • Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, System Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • Strong knowledge and experience in Electronic design (analog and digital)
  • Programming (Python and microcontrollers)
  • Quality control and CE certification
  • Relevant software (PCB layout, cable documentation, WIKI documentation, git)
  • Experience with development and maintenance of electronic circuits, particularly in control electronics
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work independently and document activities
  • Good command of English

Look forward to a unique working environment on our international research campus. Respectful cooperation and the well‑being of our DESY employees are particularly important to us. Gender equality is an important aspect for us. To support work life balance we offer flexible working hours, variable part‑time, job‑sharing models and participation in mobile work (up to 50%). You will benefit from our family‑friendly and collegial atmosphere, our established health management and occupational pension provision. As a publicly funded employer, we offer you a secure workplace and facilitate your individual career with our comprehensive training and development opportunities. Remuneration is according to the regulations of the TV‑AVH. DESY offers its employees a financial supplement for a German job ticket (Deutschland‑Ticket) at both locations.

We look forward to receiving your application via our application portal:
