About the role

We’re looking for an Editor-in-Chief to join fern. You’ll shape our editorial vision and guide writers from research to final script. You’ll refine stories, explore new ideas, and ensure our content stays sharp and relevant — all while leading, mentoring, and growing the editorial team.

Key Responsibilities

• You’ll provide writers with constructive, actionable feedback throughout the research and writing process.
• You’ll guide story development and narrative structure, helping shape compelling, coherent episodes.
• You’ll define and drive our editorial vision, giving the channel a clear strategic direction.
• You’ll aid in the exploration of new topics and story ideas to keep our content fresh and relevant.
• You’ll lead the editorial team both personally and professionally — mentoring, supporting, and recruiting new talent.

Skills and experience

• Several years of experience in journalism – ideally in video journalism.
• You speak and write excellent English. Writing and overseeing English fern scripts comes naturally to you.
• Experience in editorial leadership or managing larger editorial projects.
• A strong sense for storytelling – you know how to turn a topic into a compelling narrative.
• Highest journalistic standards and exceptional research skills.
• An organized working style, leadership qualities, strong communication skills, and sensitivity in conflict situations.

Desirable :

• Experience with investigative reporting.
• Experience with YouTube.
• Willingness to travel to Amsterdam a few times per year for a new production cycle.
• English is your mother tongue (or at least C2).
