Your tasks

As an Application Engineer - Brakes & Steering, you will be responsible for defining, validating, and ensuring regulatory compliance of brake and steering systems within our autonomous vehicle program. This role connects regulatory requirements, system integration, and functional interaction with advanced autonomous driving features.
Your Responsibilities:

  • Define and maintain performance and functional requirements for brake and steering systems
  • Derive system-level requirements from regulations and standards (UNECE, FMVSS, ISO) and ensure full compliance
  • Validate supplier specifications and ensure seamless integration into the vehicle architecture
  • Perform system validation using CAN-based tools, HiL environments, and prototype vehicles
  • Ensure correct interaction with autonomous driving systems, including fail-safe and fallback strategies
  • Lead issue analysis and troubleshooting together with suppliers and cross-functional teams
  • Collaborate with Vehicle Dynamics, AD, Functional Safety, and Homologation teams to support release decisions

Your profile
  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with brake and/or steering systems, ideally electromechanical or by-wire technologies
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (UNECE R79, R13H, FMVSS) and homologation processes
  • Familiarity with CAN / CAN-FD / Ethernet communication and diagnostic tools
  • Experience with autonomous driving systems, scenario-based testing, and coding/scripting skills (Python, MATLAB) for automation or data analysis are a plus
  • Experience with functional safety (ISO 26262) or SOTIF and basic knowledge of cybersecurity are a plus
  • Strong analytical skills, structured working style, and ability to work autonomously
  • Fluent in English; German is a plus
