LPN's Substitute School Nurse

Job Description

Employer: COFFEE COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM

Responsible to: Coordinated School Health Coordinator

Qualifications:

  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Tennessee, with graduation from an accredited program and at least five years of recent nursing experience.
  • Current CPR Certification (BLS)
  • Reliable automobile for required travel
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient technological skills

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assess students' chief complaints and contact parents or doctors as necessary.
  • Implement nursing actions guided by the Nursing Care Plan under RN supervision to promote health and prevent illness.
  • Provide emergency and standard first aid.
  • Assist in controlling communicable diseases.
  • Maintain confidential health records in compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, and the Patient Privacy Act.
  • Monitor students' health and communicate with the health coordinator or lead nurse regarding health issues requiring additional services.
  • Administer approved medical procedures and treatments within the school, such as tracheostomy care, catheterization, gastrostomy feeding, blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, and nebulizer treatments.

General Requirements:

  • Adhere to federal and state laws, policies, and procedures aligned with School Board priorities.
  • Act in the best interest of students, upholding standards of public education and supporting the District's Vision/Mission.
  • Maintain ethical standards, including professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Fulfill continuing education requirements mandated by Tennessee Health Related Boards for LPNs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
