Job Description
This Data Science role is part of the Analytics Team, crucial in developing tools and analyses that support Vitol's daily operations. The successful candidate will utilize data science and machine learning to enhance how Vitol monitors and forecasts commodity movements globally.
While collaboration with the central Data Science team is expected, this role is distinctively embedded within a team focused on vessel and cargo flows, promoting knowledge sharing and process improvements across business units.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, comfortable working with data, building models, creating visualizations, and delivering insights that impact operations directly. The environment is fast-paced, and the role offers immediate visibility into the influence of your work.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage actively as part of a team, leveraging data to transform the commodities industry.
- Deeply understand Vitol's core operations and develop innovative data-driven solutions, including automation, analytics, models, and optimization.
- Explore new datasets and external algorithms, extract insights, and communicate findings through visualizations to diverse stakeholders.
- Collaborate with domain experts to design machine learning solutions that are understandable and usable by non-technical teams.
- Work with the central Data Science and IT teams to utilize existing tools and deliver value.
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or similar, or equivalent experience.
- Strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, and machine learning.
- Extensive experience exploring and analyzing heterogeneous, multi-dimensional datasets.
- Proficiency in Python, with well-documented, modular coding skills.
- Experience visualizing complex data with tools like D3.js, Bokeh, Plotly, or similar.
- 5-7 years of industry experience as a data scientist is preferred.
- C# development skills are a plus.
- French language skills are advantageous but not required.
