The Institute Digital Communication Environments (IDCE) at the Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW (HGK Basel) offers a dynamic environment comprising a Bachelor's degree in Visual Communication and Digital Spaces, a Master's degree in Digital Communication Environments, and a research and continuing education division.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Leading the MA Programme Digital Communication Environments, including strategic planning, budget and personnel management, and overseeing its development and implementation.
  • Participating actively in the IDCE leadership team, contributing to internal and external committees.
  • Positioning and networking the MA Digital Communication Environments regionally and internationally.
  • Securing third-party funding for research, publishing scholarly work, and disseminating research findings via conferences, festivals, and exhibitions.
  • Advancing theoretical frameworks, methodologies, and practices in Digital Communication Environments to strengthen education and research in the field.
  • Contributing to the strategic development of the IDCE and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Integrating research and teaching within the MA Digital Communication Environments and supervising PhD candidates in the MAKE / SENSE PhD programme.

Your profile

You hold a university degree (MA) and a doctorate (PhD) or possess equivalent distinguished international research experience in a design discipline or related field.

Furthermore, you meet the following criteria:

  • Several years of distinguished teaching and research experience, especially in areas such as Digital Communication, Visual and Spatial Communication, AI, UX/UI Design, Interaction Design, Digital Cultures, Digital Networks, and Media Design.
  • Extensive leadership experience, including human resources, finance, strategy, and development.
  • Proven high-quality research results and successful acquisition of third-party research funding.
  • Experience with innovative, research-led, and practice-oriented teaching methods.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Qualification in higher education didactics or willingness to obtain it within the first years.
  • Proficiency in German and English, or willingness to acquire these skills during the initial years.
