Job Description

Your responsibilities

CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, is one of the world's foremost centres for scientific inquiry. Our mission is to explore fundamental questions about the universe while advancing the boundaries of science and technology for the benefit of all.

We are announcing a new Artificial Intelligence collaboration between CERN, the World Food Program (WFP), and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). This alliance aims to leverage CERN's AI algorithms, LIST's expertise in Earth Observation (EO) and crop modelling, and WFP's program capabilities to address food insecurity and hunger issues. A primary goal will be predicting extreme precipitations, aligning with ongoing efforts like the ECMWF WeatherGenerator project.

As a successful applicant, you will join a multidisciplinary team focused on using AI for building and crop damage assessment, weather modelling, and forecasting.

Your profile

Skills:

  • Proven experience with Machine Learning and Deep Learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
  • Experience in developing, training, and optimizing Deep Learning models.
  • Knowledge of transformer-based architectures.
  • Experience with Earth System data is a plus.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written, with a willingness to learn French.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You hold a degree in Computer Science or a related field and have:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of professional experience after graduation;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of professional experience after graduation.
  • You have not previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
