The Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) is a National Research Infrastructure jointly founded by EPFL and ETH Zurich, part of the ETH Domain. Its mandate is to support academic labs, hospitals, industry, and public sector stakeholders through their entire data science journey, from data collection and management to machine learning, AI, and industrialization. SDSC has a multidisciplinary team across Lausanne, Zurich, and Villigen, providing expertise in health sciences, energy, climate, and scientific infrastructures.

Job description

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will leverage your expertise in machine learning, statistical data science, computer vision, NLP, and signal processing to work closely with researchers and experts from academia and the public sector across various fields, such as health, environment, energy, and engineering. Your role includes analyzing data, developing algorithms, and translating scientific questions into data science solutions. You will collaborate actively with domain experts, implement algorithms, evaluate results, release open-source code, write research papers, and contribute to scientific communication.

Main duties include:

• Managing data science projects with academic and public sector collaborators.

You will also contribute to:

• Advising MSc students.
• Evaluating project proposals.

Profile

The ideal candidate:

• Holds a PhD in machine learning, statistics, computer vision, NLP, signal processing, or optimization.
• Has practical experience applying machine learning models to real-world problems.
• Experience in interdisciplinary collaborations and applications is desirable.
• Proficient in Python, PyTorch, and familiar with modern models and architectures.
