Jobbeschreibung

ETH Zurich is renowned for its excellent education, groundbreaking fundamental research, and its direct application of research results.

The Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich invites applications from experienced scientists specializing in manufacturing. The initial appointment will be at the scientific collaborator level (non-permanent), with the intended promotion to senior scientist (permanent) and the awarding of an Adjunct Professor title in accordance with ETH rules.

Successful candidates are expected to lead a world-class research and teaching program emphasizing industrial translation in manufacturing. We seek outstanding scientists with demonstrated expertise in subtractive manufacturing (cutting, milling, grinding, electro-discharge machining), production machines, and machine tools. They should leverage their knowledge to address industry-relevant research challenges such as controlling high-precision production machines, optimizing machine tools, or developing sustainable manufacturing processes.

This position is expected to be part of ETH’s upcoming Center for Manufacturing. The selected candidate will support the development and execution of educational and mentoring activities, supervise doctoral students in subtractive manufacturing and machine tools, and assist in acquiring and coordinating industry-focused projects involving ETH students and researchers. Additionally, there are collaboration opportunities with inspire AG, ETH’s strategic partner for technology transfer to the MEM industries.

Profile

Applicants should hold a PhD in engineering with an excellent record of academic and/or industrial research in the relevant topics. A strong motivation for teaching, especially in project-based courses with hands-on experiences, is required. Courses at MAVT are taught in German or English at the undergraduate level and in English at the graduate level. The candidate’s profile should complement research and teaching at the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing (IWF) and the Institute for Virtual Manufacturing (IVP).
