Job Description

About this job :

  • In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting a diverse book of worldwide property, onshore energy, and engineering treaty reinsurance, focusing on global and multi-national clients, a segment in which PartnerRe is a recognized leader.
  • Your responsibilities include client and broker marketing in collaboration with account executives and senior management. You will be part of a team making sound underwriting decisions in a dynamic environment, reporting directly to the Head of Specialty Property, Engineering, and Downstream Treaty.

About the role :

  • Handle results-oriented underwriting by developing and monitoring a profitable portfolio of new and renewal business. This includes pricing treaty programs with Pricing Actuaries / Cat Modelling, assessing contractual documentation, and ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines through proper documentation of your decisions.
  • Establish a senior market presence with key clients and brokers, positioning PartnerRe as the reinsurer of choice for new profitable business within our risk appetite.
  • Support a culture of agility, clear communication, high performance, client focus, and solution-oriented decision-making.
  • Collaborate proactively with functions such as Actuarial, Claims, Reserving, and Technical Accounting to develop a comprehensive view of global clients and business performance.
  • Support portfolio management to ensure catastrophe accumulations stay within risk tolerances.
  • Analyze market trends, economic, and legal developments, and assess their impact on your underwriting responsibilities.
  • Manage administrative tasks like data input for contract administration accurately and efficiently to maintain data integrity for reporting.

Qualifications

About you :

Technical Competencies :

  • Relevant treaty underwriting experience with strong technical skills and understanding in at least one of the lines of business: Energy Downstream, Global Property, or Engineering.
  • Sound underwriting judgment considering structural, coverage, and pricing aspects of complex reinsurance transactions against financial and underwriting standards.
  • Strategic marketing and negotiation skills with brokers and buyers, with sufficient gravitas to represent the PartnerRe brand.

  • Willingness to travel up to 20%, sometimes at short notice during peak periods.

Work Experience :

  • At least 5 years of reinsurance treaty underwriting experience in downstream energy, global property, or engineering.
  • Experience in London, US, or other key markets, working with global clients and specialist insurers, is advantageous.
  • Experience in primary insurance or facultative markets is a plus.

Education :

  • University degree from a reputable institution, preferably with analytical and international focus.

Professional Qualifications :

  • Industry designations such as A.C.I.I, CPCU, actuarial credentials, or willingness to obtain them are advantageous.
