Partnering with leading academic researchers through its Immunology Innovation Program (IIP), argenx aims to translate immunology breakthroughs into a world-class portfolio of novel antibody-based medicines. argenx developed and is commercializing the first approved neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) blocker - VYVGART (efgartigimod alfa-fcab) - globally in the U.S., Japan, the EU, the UK, Australia, China, Canada and other Emerging markets.

argenx aims to transform the treatment of severe autoimmune disease with VYVGART, empasiprubart and our expanding pipeline of antibody-based therapeutics. This includes plans to broaden our leadership within myasthenia gravis (MG) and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), advance our next wave of indications through late-stage development to reach patients, and invest in the organic innovation engine to bring forward new first-in-class pipeline candidates.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To support the continued growth of the Emerging and Partner Markets (EPM) region, argenx is looking for an enterprise leader to serve as the General Manager for Emerging and Partner Market, who will report to the Head of Commercial.

This position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced enterprise leader, who is ready for a new, exciting challenge to help the organization continue building an enduring platform to support multiple launches of a novel and innovative medicine in areas of high medical need. Today, EPM includes Brazil (in progress), Israel, Central and Eastern Europe and Gulf Countries with potential expansion into other markets.

The General Manager, Emerging and Partner Markets (EPM), is accountable for the execution of all in-region operations and oversight of key partnerships that are necessary to achieve the organization’s commercialization objectives in the region. This role requires engagement and leadership across sales, marketing, brand management, promotional strategy, medical affairs, operational go-to-market tactics, market access, and external affairs. In particular, the role will oversee both expansion into markets with a direct model and distribution/commercialization partnerships in other markets. The role will interface directly with key members of the commercial community and the partners that we work with. The GM will ensure needs of the market are defined and partner closely with Senior Management, external HCPs, healthcare authorities, and functional experts across business operations, finance, market access, legal, compliance and medical affairs. The role is both broad and deep – requiring a strategic outlook and the ability to guarantee focused execution.

In detail, the new General Manager Emerging and Partner Markets will:

  • Lead direct cross-functional teams across medical, market access, sales/marketing, regulatory, finance, distribution, and legal, among other areas, to develop and execute innovative go to market approaches that maximize patient access to argenx medicines, in a financially sustainable way
  • Responsible for optimizing our partnered relationships and performance of the markets they serve
  • Accountable for the P&L for Emerging and Partner Markets region
  • Oversee the setup of new entities and commercialization in new markets
  • Co-create short-term and long-range operating plans and cross functional peers, to deliver the broad ambition and growth objectives of the company
  • Build an engaged team: create an inspiring vision, catalyse, and lead the team to executional excellence and coach strength-based growth and development
  • Expand patient impact to increase contribution of EPM markets to the overall business.
  • Scale the organization in a disciplined way, to manage the organization's current activities and its projected growth. Maintain a sound plan of organizational growth, in line with argenx culture and operating principles
  • In collaboration with legal, compliance, regulatory, corporate affairs, PV, and quality assurance functions, identify requirements for successful commercialization of the argenx portfolio and ensure these requirements are met.
  • Conduct business activities in compliance with ethics and legal requirements.


Candidate Profile

The General Manager, Emerging and Partner Markets will bring strong leadership amongst his/her industry peers especially in regional commercialization and innovative product launches. S/he will have a track-record of scaling a commercial organization through inspirational leadership and followership, attracting and retaining top talent, driving business growth, and promoting productive cross-functional collaboration.

In terms of the performance and personal competencies required for the position, we would highlight the following:

Skills And Competencies

  • You have extensive knowledge of operations in the region and have hands on extensive experience working in the region.
  • You have experience or are familiar with setting up new entities in the region and/or overseeing partnered models.
  • You carefully and articulately frame business challenges, set hypotheses, seek out data and input, objectively analyze, and subsequently seek alignment around your recommendations to address those business challenges with a fair and balanced view of the opportunities.
  • You have a deep network across the industry and possess competitive and market intelligence, with the ability to incorporate industry and macroeconomic environmental changes into your plans.
  • You have hands-on experience supporting market access for high value specialty therapeutics, ideally in the orphan drug space, and understand the nuanced dynamics of pricing and access internationally.
  • You are an enterprise leader, building relationships and partnering across the organization to achieve the company goals, and have a track record of execution within evolving, ambiguous environments.
  • You show strong leadership with proven ability to build, motivate and develop a team.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively together within cross-functional teams and networks.
  • You have proven business planning and financial management acumen, with a data-driven and analytical approach to building new businesses.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, within a multi-cultural and multi-lingual global environment.

Education, Experience

  • You benefit from advanced education in the sciences, business, engineering, or closely related fields.
  • You have a minimum of 15 years of experience within the biopharmaceutical industry including operational roles. You have extensive in region experience or have held above-country leadership roles in the past. EPM experience is must.
