Job summary

Howard Financial is seeking a Senior Accountant with hands-on real estate accounting to own the books for a portfolio of Development & Real Estate clients. You’ll run month-end close across multiple entities and be the main accounting contact for clients, with remote work in EST time zone.

You will handle CIP tracking, depreciation, intercompany activity, and prepare financial statements, while coordinating with CPAs on audits and tax filings. English communication with clients is required.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in real estate.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and full-cycle accounting.
• Experience with multi-entity books and intercompany activity.
• Proficiency with CIP, fixed assets, and debt accounting.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online or real estate platforms (Yardi, AppFolio, MRI, Sage Intacct).

Responsibilities

• Own the full month-end and year-end close for multiple real estate entities (LLCs, partnerships, property-level and holding entities).
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and bank, credit card, and intercompany reconciliations.
• Track development projects: construction-in-progress (CIP), cost capitalization, job costing, and placing assets in service.
• Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation, and track loans, draws, interest, and debt covenants.
• Account for rental revenue, tenant receivables, security deposits, and CAM reconciliations where applicable.
• Prepare financial statements and reporting packages: balance sheet, P&L, cash flow, budget vs. actual, and project cost reports.
• Support investor and partner reporting, capital contributions, and distributions.
• Coordinate with external CPAs on audits, tax filings, and 1099s.
• Review the work of junior accountants and bookkeepers and help improve close processes and documentation.
• Communicate directly with clients in English: answer questions, flag issues early, and explain the numbers clearly.

About the role

We're looking for a Senior Accountant with hands-on real estate accounting experience to own the books for a portfolio of Development & Real Estate clients. You'll run month-end close across multiple entities, keep project and property financials clean, and be the go-to accounting contact for your clients.

What you'll do

What you bring

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Contador Público or equivalent).
• 4+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in real estate: development, property management, or investment entities.
• Solid knowledge of US GAAP and full-cycle accounting, from transactions to financial statements.
• Experience with multi-entity books, intercompany activity, and consolidations.
• Hands-on experience with CIP, cost capitalization, fixed assets, and debt accounting.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and/or a real estate platform such as Yardi, AppFolio, MRI, or Sage Intacct.
• Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills (lookups, pivot tables, reconciliation workbooks).
• Advanced English (C1 or higher), written and spoken, for daily client communication.
• Organized and deadline-driven, comfortable managing several clients at once in a remote setting.

Nice to have

• Experience at an outsourced accounting firm or a US CPA firm serving real estate clients.
• Familiarity with ASC 842 lease accounting and investor waterfall distributions.
• Exposure to construction draw requests, lender reporting, or fund accounting.
• Experience with automation tools such as Bill.com, Ramp, Dext, or similar.
• CPA or local equivalent certification, or progress toward one.
