Title: Senior QA Automation Engineer – AI-First Testing
Location: Remote LATAM
Duration: 12+ month contract
Compensation: Competitive, based on experience
Work Requirements: Citizen of the country of employment or authorized to work in that country.
Senior QA Automation Engineer – AI-First Testing
Our clientis seeking a highly technical, hands-on Senior QA Automation Engineer to support quality engineering initiatives across its enterprise energy software platforms, with an initial focus on its Accounting/ERP application.
The ideal candidate combines strong software testing fundamentals with advanced Playwright/TypeScript automation experience, practical knowledge of Playwright MCP, and daily use of AI-assisted development and testing workflows.
This is not a traditional manual QA position or a role focused solely on maintaining existing automated test scripts. We are looking for an engineer who can independently design test scenarios, develop and troubleshoot automation, explore complex application functionality, and effectively incorporate AI agents into the software testing lifecycle.
Candidates must demonstrate both strong technical fundamentals and the judgment to validate AI-generated output rather than relying on it without review.
Key Responsibilities
Playwright Automation & Engineering
- Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot automated test suites using Playwright with TypeScript.
- Build and enhance reusable test automation components, including fixtures, page objects, locators, assertions, and test-data utilities.
- Develop automated coverage for UI, end-to-end workflows, APIs, and integrated application functionality.
- Investigate flaky tests, synchronization issues, unreliable locators, and test-data dependencies.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD workflows to support regression testing and release validation.
- Maintain reliable, maintainable automation that can scale with ongoing application development.
AI-First Quality Engineering
- Incorporate AI-assisted tools and agents into day-to-day testing, automation development, test design, debugging, and defect investigation.
- Work with Playwright MCP to support AI-driven browser interaction, test development, and automation workflows.
- Apply AI-assisted approaches to generating test scenarios, identifying coverage gaps, troubleshooting failures, and improving test maintenance.
- Understand foundational LLM concepts, including tokens, context windows, prompts, and the practical limitations of AI-generated output.
- Independently review, validate, correct, and improve AI-generated test cases, scripts, locators, and assertions.
- Identify false positives, incomplete coverage, incorrect assumptions, and unreliable AI-generated tests.
- Combine AI-driven efficiency with sound software engineering and quality assurance practices.
Exploratory & Manual Testing
- Independently design and execute exploratory testing against complex enterprise applications.
- Analyze business requirements, acceptance criteria, and application behavior to identify risks and testing priorities.
- Develop meaningful positive, negative, boundary, and edge-case scenarios beyond predefined test scripts.
- Investigate unexpected application behavior and identify defects that may not be detected through automated regression testing.
- Perform manual validation where business complexity, changing functionality, or testing risk requires human judgment.
- Document defects with clear reproduction steps, supporting evidence, expected results, and actual behavior.
- Apply risk-based testing practices to business-critical accounting and financial workflows.
API, Backend & Data Validation
- Design and execute API tests to validate application functionality beyond the user interface.
- Validate API requests, responses, status codes, payloads, error handling, and business rules.
- Perform backend and database validation, including SQL queries where applicable, to verify data integrity.
- Test interactions between frontend functionality, APIs, backend services, and underlying data.
- Identify inconsistencies between displayed application data and backend processing.
- Support testing of integrated enterprise applications with complex data relationships and business workflows.
QA Collaboration & Delivery
- Collaborate with developers, product owners, and QA team members throughout Agile development cycles.
- Manage test cases, defects, and testing artifacts using Azure DevOps or comparable tools.
- Support automated regression execution and continuous improvement of QA processes.
- Contribute to test coverage, automation reliability, and release quality.
- Work independently in a distributed, remote engineering environment.
Required Qualifications
- Strong professional experience in software quality assurance, including both manual and automated testing.
- Advanced, hands-on experience developing automation with Playwright and TypeScript.
- Demonstrated ability to build, extend, debug, and maintain Playwright automation without relying entirely on AI-generated code.
- Practical experience with Playwright MCP and an understanding of how AI agents interact with browser automation tools.
- Regular, hands-on use of AI-assisted development and testing workflows, including the ability to explain how AI is incorporated into daily QA activities.
- Working knowledge of LLM fundamentals, including tokens, context windows, and limitations of AI-generated results.
- Strong exploratory testing and test-design skills, with experience independently identifying defects and testing gaps.
- Experience testing REST APIs and validating backend application behavior.
- Familiarity with SQL and database/data-integrity validation.
- Experience with CI/CD automation and test execution pipelines.
- Ability to communicate technical decisions, troubleshoot independently, and explain personally implemented solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to Tricentis Tosca, including familiarity with its model-based automation approach.
- Experience with Selenium or Cypress.
- Experience with Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI-assisted engineering tools.
- Experience using AI agents for test planning, generation, failure analysis, or maintenance.
- Experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps pipelines.
- Experience testing Accounting/ERP platforms, financial systems, or other data-intensive enterprise applications.
- Experience with contract testing, API integrations, and complex business workflows.
Assessment Criteria
- Playwright + TypeScript – 30% – Can write, debug, and maintain actual automation.
- AI-first workflows + MCP – 30% – Understands AI fundamentals, MCP architecture, and can validate AI-generated work.
- Exploratory testing – 25% – Can independently uncover meaningful defects.
- API/backend validation – 15% – Can test beyond the UI and validate business data.
Nice to have
- Domain experience in oil and gas or energy software — accounting/ERP, land and lease management, production and field data capture, transportation and logistics, or well lifecycle management — or in other financial or operations systems of record.
- Experience testing Delphi/legacy desktop applications or Flutter front ends.
- ISTQB Foundation (CTFL) certification.
