Oowlish seeks an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services powering high-availability web applications. You will own backend features, troubleshoot production issues, and influence architectural decisions while collaborating with Product, QA, DevOps, and Frontend teams.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, writes clean code, and continuously improves software quality and engineering practices. 5+ years of PHP/Laravel experience is required.

• 5+ years of PHP development experience.
• Experience with Laravel framework.
• Experience designing scalable RESTful APIs.
• Strong SQL knowledge with PostgreSQL.
• Experience writing automated API tests.
• Experience using Git and GitHub.
• Understanding of CI/CD practices.
• Experience working with Docker.
• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud environments.
• Experience using monitoring/logging tools.

Responsabilidades

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using PHP and Laravel.
• Develop new features while maintaining and improving existing backend systems.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues in collaboration with QA, Support, and DevOps teams.
• Build and maintain integrations with third‑party services and internal APIs.
• Develop automated tests for APIs and critical backend workflows.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines by integrating automated testing.
• Monitor application performance, logs, and system health to proactively identify issues.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Document technical solutions, troubleshooting procedures, and internal processes.
• Continuously improve development workflows, tooling, and engineering standards.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services that power high‑availability web applications.

In this role, you’ll take ownership of backend features, troubleshoot complex production issues, optimize system performance, and contribute to architectural decisions while collaborating closely with Product, QA, DevOps, and Frontend teams.

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on engineer who enjoys solving challenging technical problems, writing clean and maintainable code, and continuously improving software quality and engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using PHP and Laravel
• Develop new features while maintaining and improving existing backend systems
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues in collaboration with QA, Support, and DevOps teams
• Build and maintain integrations with third‑party services and internal APIs
• Develop automated tests for APIs and critical backend workflows

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience with PHP and Laravel
• Strong experience building scalable backend applications
• Strong SQL knowledge, preferably PostgreSQL
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
• Experience writing automated API tests
• Experience with Git and GitHub collaborative workflows
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines
• Experience working with Docker
• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms
• Experience using monitoring and logging tools
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

Must have

• 5+ years of PHP development experience
• Strong Laravel framework experience
• Experience designing scalable RESTful APIs
• Strong SQL knowledge with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
• Experience optimizing database performance
• Experience writing automated API tests
• Experience with Docker
• Experience using Git and GitHub
• Understanding of CI/CD practices
• Experience troubleshooting production issues
• Experience integrating third‑party APIs
• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud environments
• Experience using monitoring/logging tools (Rollbar, CloudWatch, or similar)
